Sqealing brakes, Driving me mad!

Featured Replies

My rear brakes have been squealing in reverse since i fitted mintex drilled/grooved discs and pads. recently they have started to do it more, when turning left and sometimes just randomly. Seems worse since i lowered my car? Ive read a few threads about stronger handbrake springs and anti mooing kits. Would it help to strip the pads out and clean everything up? or will this be short lived? Really need to sort this its doing my head in, especially when the missus asks "whats that noise" lol

We're there any backing plates on the pads? Some of them have an almost sticky backing? If not you can put a bit of copper slip on the bit of the calliper that touches the pads, this sometimes helps and is quite straight forward!

Failing that I have herd the anti mooning kits help but have never used one.

Mine do it too, with plenty of anti seize paste. Mine even do it travelling forwards a bit. I've just stopped caring now.

It doesn't go away eventually either. There may be ways around it, but I see a few people saying that even the anti-mooing measures they have taken still aren't enough. Not worth losing sleep over.

Have the pads got a chamfered edges on them, taking pads out and angling edges where pads run can help if there not like that already

Yes it will be short lived, sorry to say. The squealling is very common and annoying, It also for some reason is amplified worse with using Mintex and Mintex extreme pads as drove me nuts with those pads in mine.

anti mooing kit's do fix it and or stronger springs have also had good results as they pull back the handbrake lever/cable to the home position better and stop brake dragging

well it drove me insane, i was lucky getting a set of anti mooing kit for around £40 posted but would be happy to pay the £100 from dealer just to get rid of noise. Used to make me jump sometimes as forgot it till i reversed.

Yes pads had sticky backing on them, Looks like anti mooing kit is the way forward. Will try and find one bit cheaper, dont fancy paying £100! but if needs must. Its really embarrassing as its quite loud
