First Bong?

Featured Replies

Yep, just tootling down the road to work this morning and 'BONG', I thought 'what the ........' then noticed my temp display was flashing a 4 and the little snow flake symbol.

Crikey, we're not even out of August yet :(

Funny I was just about to start the very same thread. Time for winter tyres to go back on?

Standby for lots of winter tyre threads!

I had my heater in the livivng room on for the first time this "season" last night!

Not yet but did put a hoodie on in the house. That's my first sign it's getting colder. Parents don't put heating on until it's close to minus figures and I can forget a gas fire. Once I go through the first cold day of the year I'm fine.

Our unwritten rule is the heating goes off at the end of March and back on at the end of September.

Haven't needed it yet... fingers crossed there's still some summer left!

you guys turn your heating off??

seriously? Ours is set to 19 degrees, so when the house is below 19 then it heats up, if it's not it doesn't. We never turn it off

I turn mine off as well between April and September. What's the point in wasting gas leaving it on all year round.

Heating off from march to end September here not cold enough I've got a pussy to keep me warm ;) ( feline type )

erm well call me a softie but in the morning it is usually about 9 degrees or so, which means that even inside the house it's chilly enough. Plus of course we use hot water for showering etc so we need it on for that. This morning it was 3 degrees.

In the summer I tend to turn it off in the day time (I work from home) but in the evening if I don't turn it on we need to go and put on a fleece

My temp reading was down to 2 at 5.00am this morning. The Focus was straining at the leash with all that lovely cool air filling her lungs! Lol.

I never took the Winters off my car. Summer tyres are in the shed still.

Glad too, some of the recent rain we've had has been diabolical

First snowfall on the hills last night too

Got down to 1C on the South Coast the same night, smashing the previous coldest record, with a good ground frost. It was just one of those freak events that happens in a chaotic system, a pool of Arctic air got sucked down fast, overnight, in calm cloudless conditions. Could happen again tomorrow. Or never. It has got nothing to do with global warming/cooling or any indication of what the winter will be like. In fact another exceptional Indian Summer like last Autumn is not unlikely at the moment.

Heating is still off in our house. These days heating MUST be views as a luxury and its only going to get worse as bills go up.

Im not looking forward to winter, I had some cracking winter tyres on the prevoius Octy and they served me proud but the new car they are going to be cost prohibitive so its back to the slippery mornings for us.

Same here. Heating stays on. Has only just started dropping below 24 inside again.

Sorry guys it was 34.9 here today.

Our heating is never on from around Feb -> Oct. Ever.

Think it was on for 2 days possibly since Feb this year?

No need to apologise...........

Is it the likes of heating and hot water that over the next 10 years is going to massivly widene the rich/poor gap. Its wrong at every level and the state need to sort it out now before a massive crisis is on our hands. Enjoy your heat while it lasts, it wont be around for ever.

24? I'd be sweating at that temperature! I couldn't stand that, especially at night!

frost on the windscreen here on Friday morning and temp reading 1C. was only at 9c when I got home at 5.30.

Likewise, our heating is set to keep the house at 19 degrees, summer or winter. This summer the day time peak seems to have been around 12 for so much of the time it's not exactly been much different from the autumn. Although I work from home I never have the heating on during the day, the pc in the office heats the room nicely. But in the evening and morning I draw the line at having to wear a fleece rather than have the heating on.

And they say the Scots are tight? :p

Our heating stays on all year. Set at 19c. If it doesn't come on for a month or two I just run it up for half an hour to keep the pump working. Don't want to find out it doesn't work in October.
