Strange Power issues, only slight but annoying

Featured Replies

Recently i changed my maf sensor and things have been going well since. Power seems just a teeny bit off today, no limp mode at high revvs or under load or anything.

What happens is when i put my foot down she pulls well, but between 2750 and 3300 revs there is a wee lull in power then it picks up again.

Also noticed that my turbo always used to make a nice shump when i turned off the engine, but doesnt do this now, although actuater is still free moving. Mind you i have removed alot of the vac system down to just turbo actuater, however this was some time ago.

why would it not do this anymore - would it have been another valve that released pressure faster?

Thanks for any tips that may come my way (no fault codes stored either)

its ok its sorted. quiet on the help front recently

your shump noise is most likely the anti shudder valve in the EGR rather than the turbo.

Ah now that makes sense, as I have now disconnected all but my n75. Goes much better with less vac pipeage.

Cheers mate.

Just out of interest lofty. What was the car like before you changed maf sensor. Was there noises, extra dumping, or sluggish. The reason I ask is I'm convinced my 4x4 isn't performing as should although not too bad.just feels a little flat especially top end which.is where I'd expect a petrol turbo especially a 20 v one to be full of beans. And seems tho whistle more than id ecpect to. No fault codes or lights. I unplugged the maf sensor and didnt really notice any difference. Any opinion appreciated

if no difference noticed when unplugged then unlikely to be a failed maf, but it could be on its way. Check all boost hoses for leaks as thats first thing to do, then all vac lines.

However if the maf is more than 4 years old, its had it anyway, thats from the top bosch ones last only that long. I suspect that your car would benefit from a change of maf anyway.

The turbos on these are very vocal anyway, i had a 4x4 1.8t 20v for a bit and loved it, whistled well. Had a fault with dump valve and fluttered so i left it as it sounded great

Cheers lofty, I think I've caught all likely culprits for boost leaks however, the corrugated pipe that sits infront of tge inlet mainfold. I think it comes straight from the sai pump is split just as on joins the solid plastic one above the N valves and very brittle, but surely that wouldn't cause boost leak.

Nah that would cause a bit of noise on start up for a minute or so.
