Recirculating dump valve on 58 plate VRS octavia 170cr

Featured Replies

Hey guys I did post this in the octavia I forum but got told to post it in here. Im putting a front

Mount intercooler on to my car but also want to change the recirc valve but I can't seem to find we're it is :( does it have one an if so were is it an how easy/hard is to change? Thanks

As far as I am aware there is no recirc valve / dump valve on the CR, only the FSI petrol

The dump valve is to release the build up of excess pressure in the intake pipes when the butterfly in the throttle body is closed. This prevents the turbo stalling and increases its life.

I'm sure the diesel doesn't have this type of butterfly in the throttle body, old diesels never did not sure if they have begun to introduce them.

Ok if I wanted to put one on would it be ok or pointless? As I'm going to reroute an repipe it so I can have the intercooler?

You could fit one, but there is no advantage to it, in-fact there might be a slight disadvantage as you will be emptying all the pressure out of the intake pipes, causing a SLIGHT increase in turbo lag when changing gear. Would probably be hardly noticeable.

Once fitted you will need an electronic kit to be able to open and close it at the correct time. On a petrol the vacuum in the manifold (pipe from manifold to dump valve) sucks open the dump valve, once you begin to accelerate the pressure from the turbo builds up and shuts the valve. The diesel doesn't have this change in vacuum to pressure so your add on dump valve would have to be opened and closed electronically. Easy enough to do but you just need to decide it its worth it.

Dump valves do sound good :-)

You would need:

1. A Micro switch (Maplins) - something like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/v3-style-alarm-tamperswitch-20406

2. Wiring and connectors

3. Some small strong pipe (washer tube size)

3. A 12v boost regulator solenoid off almost any turbo car (the factory way of controlling turbo boost pressure). Pierburg is a common make and off the top of my head Rover / MG 1.8t amongst MANY other makes / models use this. Here is an example, but DON'T buy it from here, expect to pay no more than £10. VAG cars use a similar valve i just know this one works perfectly for what you trying to do.

Hmm ATM it seems to much hassle to stick one in I think I wont worry for the moment thanks for the help mate

Why you bothering with fmic on a CR? You can do stage 1, then remove dpf so then stage 2 would be worthwhile but after that the return on any investment is negligable. I would expect the oem intercooler to be sufficient for this but I could be wrong.

I got a ford cossie frmic didn't cost me anything and I'm getting the stage 1 remap from angel tuning in Banbury £840 remap plus DPF removed an full turbo back exhaust EGR valve aswell. Stage 2 I don't think I'll get the cost of it to get it ready for that is not worth the money IMO I could be wrong :S

I wouldn't bother with the fmic I don't think for the sort of power a stage 1 cr puts out that it is going to give you anything..... Could be wrong
