alternator?

Featured Replies

My battery does not appear to be charging. As the car is 6yrs old I assumed it must be the battery & replaced it - no difference. No warning lights on dash so thinking possible belt adjustment. How do I do this?

Oh almost forgot where abouts is it!!!!

What engine? The belt is self adjustable.

Possibility is, that alternator is charging, but you have a loss of voltage somewhere. I mean that when you stop the car, there could be still something consuming power.

Get yourself a multimeter and check from battery with working engine, that is it charging. It should be something ~14v.

It's not unknown for the alternator to fail - mine failed at just under 3 years. And the replacement failed 6 weeks later! (got them under warranty though - just. :whew: ).

Four years later and still going - probably shouldn't have said that... :x

Yes, but when the alternator fails, it gives a "no charging" battery light in dashboard. :)
