Thinking of buying Scoda Fabia VRS - what to look for?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm think of buying a Scoda Fabia VRS so thought it would be worth a post on here to see what I should be looking out for. I have found one in particular which interests me - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201235483493166/sort/default/usedcars/transmission/manual/maximum-mileage/up_to_100000_miles/fuel-type/diesel/price-from/1000/price-to/3000/quantity-of-doors/5/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/page/5/postcode/ng36hl/keywords/tdi/radius/60?logcode=p

I called up the dealer earlier and as expected the mileage is written wrong - supposed to be 140,000 ish miles. Apparently it has full service history with at least 2 stamps in the service book every year, last service was October 2011 at 131,000 so I guess it's due a service soon?

The high mileage does concern me a lot but it does seem to be an immaculate example.

I haven't viewed the car yet and will only go if you guys think it's worth it, I've read stories of turbos going around that mileage?!

Please let me know what you think, obviously if it is a good buy and I did go for it then I would ask for it to be serviced as part of the sale as I think one would be coming up.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Avoid ones spelt Scoda... they may be fakes! :p

Without being too much of an arse, do a search there are alot of good topics on this.

That one looks quite nice, especially with the xenons; they're a highly sought after optional extra.

Wear on the drivers seat bolster looks bad, mines like this too but there is no hole on mine that one looks to have a tear.

Milage should be ok as long as its been serviced. Service interval should be ever 10K or less.

For that price I'd ask the dealer to service the car, all filters and fluids and possibly change the drivers seat base. You can always ask :)

Good luck. Though for not much more money you could have one with less miles :)

Go for it!

Bought mine about a month back from Skoda for £5,750 - Not looked back! :)

Haha thanks for the replies guys, how I managed to spell Skoda like that i'll never know :wonder: .

Have taken those things on board and if I do go for it i'll make sure I try and get a service chucked in and haggle the price down.

What about the cambelt on these? I've read they are done every 60k miles? so guess I would need to check it was done at 120k?

How much more money do you think I need to spend to get a lower mileage example? I really only have about 3 grand max.

Cheers

Alex

I spent £5.750 and got one with 35K on the clock - Cam belt changed, Service, 1 year Skoda Warranty.

Seemed a bargain, especially as I got leather seats.

Ok thanks, my budget really is about 3 grand tops but i'd rather spend around £2,500. My wife and I are buying a house so that is first priority, I really just want something to use as a workhorse for motorway trips and for the winter as I ride a motorcycle and soon it will be time to garage that when it snows! Figured VRS would offer great MPG and also fun to drive :-)

There's this one in Northern Ireland, bit more in your budget but will cost about £150 for the ferry home.

Fly over, make a weekend of it and then travel home :)

Less miles though.

Nice find thanks! will have to see if I can justify a trip over to Ireland though.

TBH I forgot about gumtree so will have a look on there now.

Personally not sure how you have found this site with spelling like that! :p

Sorry im in a joker mood!!!

As long as it has a full service history to go with the mileage then have no fear. Mine is touching 139k miles, full Skoda service history with Quantum longlife 3 being used each oil change, also had a new clutch kit, cam belt + water pump on the last service @ 133k. Smooth as anything and drives like a new.

The xenon lights would sell it for me LOL, fantastic.

Can Xenon lights be added to a fabia without them? surley it would just be a case of replacing the actual headlight?

Xenons :p you can buy depo xenon headlights off eBay. Because the washer system isn't fitted then it can't be tested so it can't fail in theory. My mates have done this and theirs haven't failed an mot as yet.

Remember its Northern Ireland so its still sterling bla bla bla.

The amount of people that think we use Euros is unreal.

Strictly you have to export the car to England from N.Ireland but this is the sellers responsibility. It doesn't cost any more, just moves it about from the DVLNI to the DVLA. And there's no need to change the plate unless you want to :) The plates here are ageless so it can be used in cherished transferes for anything regardless of age , except tractors.

I see alot of old TXI **** plates on Taxis when i'm in England and have a wee chuckle.

Did a wee search for travel cost there:

Flight from East Mids airport to Belfast City is £69

Ferry from Larne to Cainryan in Scotland is £109 Takes an hour to cross.

Ferry from Belfast to Liverpool Birkenhead is £119 but takes 8 hours to cross :)

Those prices are for 1 person travelling :)

It can fail in N. Ireland for not having the washers fitted as they point blank refused to change the wording on that advisory from Must to should, or something like that. So if you have projector HID's/Xenons you have to have SL and washers or its a fail.

******s.
