Wear & tare my ****.

Featured Replies

Finally got the call off the dealer that they managed to get round to looking at my slipping clutch problem to be told it has worn out after only 20k and skoda class that as wear and tare.

Around 15k of the 20k have been motorway miles but that takes the biscuit. I know it's running 250bhp but even so.

Get it back on monday

that sucks mate :o

(and i though I had a raw deal after 40k miles)

If your maxing out your k03s and 220+Bhp then wear and tear I'm afraid deep down feels fair. If it were standard, then I'd be arguing the toss for sure. Your postion my shoes, look at a new uprated clutch, swallow it and kick a tyre or two while you wait.

Luck of the draw, most extreme I've heard of thus far on the site is

Did you replace it with another OEM clutch?

having said that mine was slippng for a few weeks but now seems to be healing...maybe there's no clutch left, metal on metal :D

It's called that because it is the name of the symbol

As for the clutch - I'd personally not get the standard one if I had to spend that kinda cash of my own back, I'd got for the uprated ones so it won't happen again.

Bad luck I suppose - you can burn a clutch out a lot quicker than 20k miles, really depends on how you use it ;) Normal wear & tear, hmmm must admit I'd agree if you drive it relatively normally it isn't really.

That said, engine is tuned so that means clutch without warranty..

I have put a standard clutch back in as cannot see the point of spending another

Fair enough in that case, didn't know you were flogging it :D

Thanks Nick.I was also serious about the prices.I am amazed at how expensive the clutch business is.Ouch.

How many miles should people be expecting out of the clutch on an unmodded vRS then? I'm coming up to 50k now

The lambda sensor measures the exhaust gas for any residual oxygen, indicating unburnt fuel. It's part of a closed loop feedback system that the ECU uses to adjust the air/fuel ratio in the engine. Unburnt fuel damages catalytic converters, hence every engine with cats in also has a lambda sensor to monitor for oxygen.

do you still need this is you have a decat?

I think that's fair enough. If you've modified it, then don't expect the Skoda to pick up the bill when you break it.

There are very good reasons for the power limits that these cars have! At least it's only damaged the clutch: if you uprate this, I'd expect the gearbox to be damaged next.

I think i will stick with my mk2 golf as thats on the factory clutch at 122k and much cheaper to replace
