2nd year service for 1.2 TSI 105 DSG - How much?

Featured Replies

Hi all, any ideas what I should pay? My local dealer has phoned me to remind me my 2nd annual service is due in October and offered me a 'special deal'. Should be £249 but can do for £199.00. Said it included a pollen filter change but this is a lot more than I paid last year. Think I paid aprox £110 with a bit of bartering.

Also would like handbrake adjusting but I assume this will be extra. Any idea how much they will charge for this? Did not mention this when they quoted me £199 price so as not to confuse the issue initially.

Car has only done 9000 miles so does it need a pollen filter?

Thanks in advance. Pete

Last year might have been a 10,000 mile Oil Change Service and at a cheaper place might have been around £85

This will be a 20,000 miles type (2 year) 'Inspection Service' with a new Pollen filter.

That cost me £173 on a vRS.

I told them to leave out with the topping up the Screen Wash, (it was full of what i like in)

It would make it £177 if they put in their Washer Fluid.

The receptionist told me i would invalidate the Warranty if i did not use VAG screen wash,

i told her to get a life & she could put that in writting and sign it and so would i..

She said that they had Washer Pump failures, i told her if they did they must be sharn, i would buy a good one if it failed.

(They charge a £4 environmental charge for Oil disposal)

The pollen filter will be done this year.

If you are the same as on a vRS, the Brake Fluid next year.

Best talk it through with them.

?Has the Hand brake cable stretched?

How many clicks up now?

Thanks for the quick response George. Handbrake requires 8 clicks and it does not get used much. Never use it whilst driving as hill holder works a treat and its never on whilst parked in the garage so I dont think its wear and tear so if its stretched cables will it be covered under warranty

Pete

No, cables stretch and need adjusted.

But do not let on. Just report the Hand Brake is very high.

They will check & if there is not enough adjustment left or a bad cable it is a new one under warranty.

If the charge to adjust what was possibly a badly adjusted cable at the factory or PDI, then they are greedy greedy sods.

They are pricey for their service charge anyway.

Best play dumb.

point out every fault or concern this time.

The 'Inspection service; is quite involved when done properly.

No wheels off or anything tho.

I have the full list here. takes me 20 minutes,

takes them near 2 hours. 'They are more professional than me Obviously.'

What dealer and where? Pete

Maybe your Dealership owners are less greedy than the place i went,

Those that were the owners are now just employees & partners,

but they do still have a taste for driving Morgans & Ocean going Yachts.

Good Coffee but bad customer services.

They have been taken over tho by a very big company that has the Other Skoda Dealerships & various other Manufacturers.

border cars, lillyhall, cumbria... was about £82 for the first 10k service, and was £87 for the 30k service... will be more for the 40k service, but I just changed the plugs, so thats one job that wont need doing! lol...

every 20k is the big one.... may need brake fluid change at 40k as well... not sure.... brakes aren't even 50% worn, so no worries there...

I find the service department customer service very poor at my local dealer, not at all helpful, always a 2 week wait before I'm able to get the car in for anything etc, etc. The salesman is great, that's the only reason I buy there, I've known him for years from previous manufacturer dealerships.

After being quoted £153 for the first service on my Monte I went to my local garage where my cousin works (so they won't do a bad job) and paid £49 for the first service with OEM filters and specified oil, they understood it had to be warranty standard.

I went back there for the second service too, £99, also a warranty standard service.

I don't mind so much with the Monte about dealer stamp as my car is doing 20k plus each year, I don't think it'll be worth a great deal more, if anything, because it had a dealer stamp in the book.

Does anyone think I've done the wrong thing by going elsewhere for servicing, I'd welcome any comments.

Also, with my VRS coming the end of the month hopefully, any views to servicing this away from the dealer?

Not done wrong really but you will be limited on support from Skoda for any debatable issues justnoutside warranty.

Dealer and Skodanhave been tonshow goodwill buy either carrying out reapirs free charge or partially if a fault occurs just outside of the warranty,

Now this wouldnt apply to everything and depends on the fault andnhow much fuss a customer makes. The more loyal you are to skoda and its dealer network the more likey they will do there best to help.(basically you scratch thier back they scratch yours)

Ive seen this can be the case with Skoda and Mercedes Commercials.

So with that in mind, id be tempted to try and get use skoda whereever possible, attempting to get the best price i can and hope the loyaltiy is repaid at some point.

That said you could do that for the 3 years and not have fault, so its just a gamble either way really

MilgeS,

re

Servicing by Skoda Dealership & to keep the Warranty.

'Vehicles used for part of a Business'. Not just a 'Company car.'

(We know about getting Serviced at VAT Registered Garages & using Original Parts.)

? Just asking again, 'A Vehicle bought to be used for a Driving Instructors car',

Are they, or a car bought to be used for 'Private Hire' or as a 'Taxi' get treated like a 'Private Vehicle',

do they get covered by the UK Warranty in the usual manner?

*3 years, or 60,000 miles*

?Do you if using the vehicle as part of your Employment offset you Purchase Price/Finance/Lease,

& running costs/fuel, servicing, road tax, insurance against you personal Income Tax?

All detailed in your annual Tax Returns!

Essential Expenditures for the tool of the trade,

before any Profit can be calculated, Income Calculated before Tax is Deducted.

Is it not worth having the vehicle Serviced at Skoda if you have the Full Warranty & Tax allowance on it?

george

Hi George,

Yes I do claim tax stuff as I only use the Monte for instruction purposes, the warranty is covered also.

My thinking when taking it elsewhere for a third of the price is that the £100 saved is 2 weeks fuel for me, that £100 saved could potentially earn me around £1000.

I did think long and hard about it but was assured that there would be no problems with warranty claims by going elsewhere, in fact I was, in a roundabout way, told to go elsewhere.

Cheers

Thoeretically, there should be no effect on warranty if its done at a VAT registered garage using OE parts (or proven to be the same as). As has been said though - if there are any recalls or updates needed for any reason, yours wouldn't "catch" these necessarily as they should flag up on the Skoda system come service time at a dealers.

Should something happen at 60,001 miles (taking an extreme example) then they would, as has also been said, look more favourably at a "goodwill" claim if it had Skoda stamps in the book.

Also would like handbrake adjusting but I assume this will be extra. Any idea how much they will charge for this? Did not mention this when they quoted me £199 price so as not to confuse the issue initially.

Pete, it's possible the handbrake cable has stretched a bit. But unless you are very heavy with the handbrake it should be ok. 8 clicks is too much though. Adjusting the cable may take care of it but do not let them take it down beyond 6 clicks. In reality adjusting the cable is probably not the problem. The rear drums may ultimately need to come off and the shoe adjustment checked. It sounds as if the self adjusters are not working properly. If you just adjust the cable you may find you will get binding rear brakes periodically unless you fix the problem inside the drums. Most techs will reset the adjusters throught the inspection hole and wham the brakes on to centre everything again. Then check to see if the cable is still slack. It might be the tech will still need to take a look inside the drums though to clean, check and reset.
