Columbus failure

Featured Replies

Hi

Unit been working fine for the 2weeks I've had the car, but suddenly today it's shows the start up screen for 10 secs then black screen, and reboots. This continues unlimitedly.

It a sept 59 plate and was bought from Arnold Clarke so not sure it falls under manufacturers warranty. Can anyone advise of any help on this as I really cannot afford to she'll out for a new unit.

Car came with 2 months warranty from AC but not sure if that voids the skoda warranty.

Any help would be really grateful

Thanks

Lee.

The constant reboots are usually caused because the internal HDD has failed, a 59 plate may possibly still be under warranty with Skoda, so take it there and see. The AC warranty will not have voided that, and I would not think the AC warranty would cover audio equipment.

The AC warranty shouldn't affect any Skoda warranty but I would say get it in to your local Skoda dealership sharpish as you're right on the border line for the warranty time limit of 3 years, unless of course your mileage is already way above 60,000 miles in which case the Skoda warranty is already void.

Good Luck :-)

Ok will call skoda uk tomorrow and see what they say. And it's 59k on the clock.

Do contact Skoda, but remember your contract is with Arnold Clark, not Skoda. Any Skoda warranty is a bonus - but the 3 year, 60k warranty is transferrable. A 59 plate car is not exactly old and you have a right to expect 2nd hand cars to work properly and not to have major expensive components fail shortly after purchase. A Columbus satnav is an expensive component. I would go back to Arnold Clark and politely ask them to fix it. if necessary, mention the sale of goods act.

if you get nowhere with either Arnold Clark or Skoda, and assuming you don't want ot resort to law (?), then you should consider a repair. Typing "repair Skoda Columbus" or "repair VW RNS 510" - the Columbus by another name - a number of links come up including this one

I have never used them, but you should be able to get this fixed for a fraction of the like for like replacement cost.

Let us know how you get on.

Taking it to my local Skoda service centre on Wednesday - hopefully it'll be fixed under warrenty. Runs out on 16th of this month!!!

lucky boy they should replace it for you. my car is on its third unit fingers crossed this one will be okay .if they do replace yours ask them how long the new unit is guaranteed for.
