Just a thought and I know the idea is to go in the cars but, German wings go from Stansted to Stuttgart every day, AM flight is about 8 o'clock and the return flight same day is about 8 PM, so nearly a full day in Stuttgart and all for about £35 each way.

Sorry to put a damper on the idea James, but Stuttgart Airport to Valkenburg Aan De Guel is at least 4 hours by road (according to google maps).......... I can't see it as a good idea........ If flying, I'd have thought that Dusseldorf was closer (still about an hour away though!).

We did dusseldorf last year, & when I costed it out, it was actually cheaper to share the car & ferry then drive, despite the 3-4 hr drive.

BTW 330k from Calais, motorway all the way. Unfortunately via Antwerpen or Brussels. It can be done in just under 2.5 hours Via Lille/ Liége is a bit of a longer way round and involves the péage. Maastricht is a bit of a nightmare at the moment as they're burying the motorway under the town

Thanks For the useful information, you are more that welcome to join us on the Sat evening at the hotel, specially as its so close to you, If youre interested please message me & I will let you know which bar/hotel we are staying in & how to recognise us Partners are welcome as its more a social event.

At present there are 2 cars going, & we ate leaving Folkestone @ approx 2pm ( uk time) on Friday 30th Nov, doing the christmas market on Sat 1st, with some food & drink in the evening in the hotel ( gastatte) bar , returning home on the Sunday evening tunnel train.

Given we will probably arrive in Calais around 4 pm , i am hoping that Brussels & Masstricht rush hours will be well over by the time we reach them, which i am hoping is a good guess.

We have to book into the hotel by 8 pm, which would route you recommend ?
