British Gp

Featured Replies

Just received my copy of MotorSport, reviewing the ten best British GPs to date.

Seems like they have to throw one out and replace it with the 2003 edition!

Were you glued to your seat for the whole 1.5 hours too?

I just wondered what that nutter was protesting about who charged on to the track? I think he was a bible basher judging by the banner he was holding, something about "read the Bible, its always right"...? What a nutter!

It was fantastic...

The thing that really sold it was that even though a lot of the overtaking was masters Vs minows, there was real overtaking, including Rubens doing Kimi ....twice....

The blokie was apparently an ex-priest or something doing a religous protest...

Unfortunatly I believe the Britsh Grand prix will go, if Spa can go, and Austria etc then Silverstone is looking dodgy, especialy when statements of having to find

China and Bahrain are on the 2004 calendar.

A very interesting GP.

I agree with Dave Richards that Jenson Button COULD be World Champion by the end of 2006.

Which is what Silverstone could have done with - a British driver in a Championship-challenging season.

Look at the crowds and publicity that Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill used to generate.

good race.. crap formula.

lose spa britain and austria and you might as well watch the asian touring cars..... which has far better racing and is just as close to home.

At the end of the day the choice of tracks has nothing to do with the quality of the circuit or the racing - it's all to do with money. How else would the awful Hungaroring remain on the calendar year after year? And the Germans get two GPs. Its all bowlocks. Bernie Ecclestone doesn't really care about the quality of the facilities as long as he's getting his pockets lined.

The British GP was the best so far this year IMHO. It was nice to see Jackie Stewart standing up for the circuit and having a go at our useless government. Apparently every other circuit bar Indianapolis receives state funding of some sort - but not ours.

Maybe if someone were to make a "donation" to new labour it would make a difference, but I suspect not.

Thing is, if we were to lose the British GP, would we ever get it back??

Let's just hope its all bluff.

The drift away from European venues has nothing to do with Tobacco sponshership being banned in Europe does it ????

Also several developers are keen to get their hands on the Silverstone site & if it were to loose the GP it would not be worth as much. Dear out Bernie dosent have a construction company per chance does he

I suspect that it's more a case of trying to increase the global TV audience, which is where good old Bern makes his millions. Hence also the reason why Sepang was added to tap into the SE Asia TV market. And China... and Russia...

Bernie doesn't give a **** about the UK TV audience, as he's never going to make any more money out of them - remember he got his fingers burned with that Sky farce.

On the basis that this GP was the most exciting in ages, I think the team owners should push Bernie to keep the race on the calendar, even if it is only on a rotational basis with other venues. Otherwise, he'll just go for the green.

wouldnt suprise me...

should ave a new formula

formula bloke... no traction control, no wings, any engine with turbos, only race at the following

nurburgring nord

spa

le mans

cadwell

oulton

trial mountain

malaysia

suzuka

orig hockenheim

old silverstone from mansell days...

Stick the original A1 ring (Mansell days too), Bathurst and Chimay on that list Paul and you've got a deal!

Umm, add Paul Ricard with the long straight and you'd have a fine collection!!

I sense a mod edit and new thread coming along real soon now......

nah the mods on here are all too busy drinking pimm's or filling in saga holiday booking forms!

It was a great race! Im getting sick of ITV going for ad breaks when something exciting happens tho!

bring back bernies pay tv!

Mind you the BBC would have been at a break for the golf too at that moment if they had had it!

A great race!! It was well worth the 6 years waiting (and watching) for one more (not!).

Im getting sick of ITV going for ad breaks when something exciting happens tho!

After 9 years of ITV coverage, this last year in Greece, I have to admit that ITV (esp Martin Brundle) does an exceptional work. While privilidged british viewers (inc myself a while back) complain about this and that, if you ever have the oportunity to watch a race abroad (in a non F1 active country such as Greece) you'll understand what I mean. I'd pay for ITV's coverage!!

As for ads during the race, my understanding is that whoever picks the time for commercials, is just NOT watching the race!! In any country!

Oh well, here our commentator calls the shots on ad breaks. He first checks whether something important could come up and then goes on to inform us on the amount of seconds that we won't see of the race!

His only duty is to get the required amount of ad breaks in during the length of the race. Which means he scrambles to cram them in in the eventuality of a restart or a caution period. Good stuff.

to be fair to itv the breaks are ususally ok.. but its sods law something happens off camera... would rather pay and have no breaks though...
