Radio problem

Featured Replies

Ok, trying to sort out a couple of issues with my octi.

One of the issues I have is that the arial lead has a break in it somewhere, and as a result, i cannot listen to the radio. I have a standard skoda symphony head unit fitted, all though it is the upgraded cd version, rather than the cassette version it came with.

So, my question is, does this stereo need to have an amplified arial, or could I get away with fitting another aftermarket arial, and not have to dismantle all the interior of the car to get the headlining out, just to replace the arial cable?

Cheers guys.

The Octavia aerial is amplified, but is only compatible with VAG headunits

Its probably this that has died, rather than a physical break in a wire

The way round this is to fit an inline arial amplifier

I can promise you that these things are magic. Fitted one to my octy the other week, and have more radio stations than i can store on my head unit.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I know it's the cable that is at fault, as if I pull the radio out of the dash, and move the arial cable about, I can eventually get it to make contact, and work.

However, as soon as I put the radio back in the dash it moves the cable again, and it goes off again.

So, the standard arial is only compatible with the standad VAG headunit, but is the head unit compatible with an aftermarket arial such as:

Cheers,

It sounds like the cable is frayed near the stero end

real pita off a job, but you could splice in a new aerial lead section

The existing aerial lead isn't long enough to chop the end off ircc

If you want to completely replace the whole aerial lead, whatever HU (OEM too) you use, I'd put one of those aerial inline amps in.
