What tyres for my 57 plate Superb Elegance TDI (115)

Featured Replies

Hi be gentle,

Time to change my tyres as I am close to the legal limit on all 4 tyres.

At the moment I have Continental Contisport Contact 3 225/45 ZR 17 on the rear and Hankook Ventus V12 evo on the front.

I feel the tyres that have been on the car have done a great job, never noticed them spinning or slipping in places where my previous car (a passat) did.

I am a complete novice when it comes to these type of things and want a hard wearing tyre with good performance that will do a year round job. I am impressed by those of you that switch between summer and winter wheels but to be honest here in N Ireland there is not that much change from season to season.

Budget is an issue so please bear that in mind. I am prepared to spend up to around £80 per tyre unless you can convince me otherwise.

Thanks in advance.

At that price I'd go for a Kumho KU39, which is Y rated (as good as ZR), I'd not consider a Falken as they only do a W rating at this prive level. To get a longer lasting tyre you'd have to spend close to £100 on a Bridgestone or a cheap budget which would not provide the grip level's I think you require. .

I cant comment too much on the superb yet as I have only had it 2 weeks but I ran 4 Octavias before that.

I run Goodyears on all my company cars. I find them very good all year round and I do 50,000 miles a year.

You can also look a VR rated tyres as long as they have the correct loading as they are rated at 150 mph.

Check around as sometimes the tyres with a higher speed limit can be cheaper.

My last Octavia was a 1.8TSi and I ran Goodyear Efficent Grip and they were very good and quiet.

errr...wouldn't this be a Superb I, being a 57 plate car. Superb II wasn't launched until March 08 in Geneva.

It was first registered in Jan 2008 so that probably does make it a Mk 1.

Pedantry aside have you any advice on tyres?

Thank you to everyone else that has contributed useful advice
