Pimp my ride

Featured Replies

So, I've got some plans together (well, Wardy helped :D)

1. Remap - considering this for May 2013 for insurance reasons

2. Upgraded speakers. The OEM ones are crap. At least the ones in my car are. The slightest hint of bass is met with distortion. I have a Bolero headunit which should be ample enough to power some decent speakers.

3. Bluetooth kit to go with Bolero.

4. Maxidot - maybe?

5. MFSW - Here's a thought. I have a DSG car. If I were to buy say a vRS MFSW wheel with paddles - can the paddles work on my car?

6. Think that's it.

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestsions gratefully received.

seriously oem+ is the way to go

Defo go for the remap. You wont be dissapointed.

Speakers are a but crap. Are you thinking of upgrading all the speakers or just the front component ones?

Bluetooth kit is excellent and ive already bought one for my next car without knowing what I was buying becuase its so good and is OEM. - Now got a car and it has a parrot kit installed but I still might take it out and install the OEM bluetooth kit anyway.

Retrofitiing maxidot will be expensive but it was one of the things I really wanted when looking for another car. Even an older mk2 with maxidot and Bolero looks a lot more up to date then a swing and standard display. IMO it makes quite a diference.

Wouldnt have a clue about the MFSW but its a good question.

Maxidot I can take or leave because I've got a VCDS to code and find faults anyway.

Would like to upgrade at least the fronts, preferably all of them though.

Get a Maxidot. You will spend so much time looking at the gauges, it's worth it. It is one of the more spendy upgrades (if you don't luck out at a breakers) but I'm still kicking myself I drove for a year without one. Trust me!

Yes the paddles can work.. You'll just need to update the steering wheel module to a highline one ... And obviously a bit of vcds tinkering.

For the MFSW, get a Mk6 / Scirocco flat bottom one. They're so much nicer.

.. apart from the VW badge?

;)

NIce picture Nick.

Car is looking great.

Havent seen you around for ages, are you still in Sheffield or have you moved?

Or a MkV :)

Nick, I only Live in Wakefield. I just wanted to say that if you're ever selling your car let me know....Looking to change from my Mk1 vRS, and this would save a lot of time and effort!

Out of interest do you know how much Nick has done to his car? It's an impressive machine indeed and it's defo a one off

I only upgraded the speakers in the front of my car and have found it fine for my requirements, I'm sure the Dynamat also helped improve the sound and lower the road noise a little.

Other than that all the mods you mentioned sound good, I quite like the OEM'ish mods

Hi Mark. Still in Sheff. Can you make it down to the Snipe on the 25th?

Cant do the 25th but hopefully make it next month.

If your ever in my neighbourhood drop in for a cuppa.

Will do Mark :) .

James - tbh, there's no way I'll ever sell my car complete. When I do sell it, it will be returned standard suspension or coilovers, standard seats, steering wheel, wheels, brakes, etc. As Mark could tell you, it's much easier to sell the car like that and selling the bits separately will get you much more for them.

I'd imagine I'll sell mine standard plus coilovers, limited slip diff and uprated clutch (too much hassle to remove), probably with the DPF still removed but with the original DPF included in case the buyer ever wanted to put it back on.
