Coolant top up...

Featured Replies

My coolant warning light came on today just after i had started the VRS to go to work, I have started to notice a little bit of a pattern and wondered if anyone else had seen this. every four to five weeks i have to put in literally only around 40 to 50mls of coolant fluid to bring it back to between low and high and to turn off the light and the annoying beep each time you turn the ignition on.

There is no water in the oil or vice versa i can't find any wet patches under the car or see anything on the sump cover underneath when removed so i wondered if this is just natural usage or do you think i have a tiny leak somewhere?

Mines te same mate

Mines the same too

Mine was doing that. It was the start of the head gasket going.

Diddnt mean to frighten you! You may just have a little leak. Check around heater matrix for crystals.

I think mine leaks a touch out of one of the clips

A tiny leak between the radiator and the AC condenser will be very difficult to see, but try drying the front of the condenser and looking for a wet mark first thing in the morning.

I have to top up occasionally too

Mine's the same, although I don't think it's the HG going

In the 18 months and (only to be fair) about 14k I've never had to top up oil or coolant?

This seems to get covered quite often, some say they've had head gaskets changed after the coolant loss has started?

hopefully it's just a leak, mines past 139k and she don't use any oil or water... :)

Update:- sat at my desk in the office today and looked outside to see a small wet patch under the front drivers side of the car, i've not had the aircon on so know it couldn't be anything from that, looked at the edge of the undertray and about 6 inches from the edge is a wet patch had a quick look under the bonnet but can't see anything i have half a day off on Friday so will keep an eye on the water until then and update you all once i have found the issue...

Atleast i now know its not the head gasket on the way out... :whew:

Me too :), but I think mines the temp sensor by the radiator, near the battery side, I see small bits of white flakes around there but cant get access to it unless I take the bumper off...

(I need to find that 'how to replace temp sensor' thread again).
