Featured Replies

Well firstly i would like to thank Lofty79 Aka Carl for his generosity in giving me these vrs Goodies

So once i got home from visiting carl i decided instead of watching TV and getting moaned at from the fiance i would lock myself in my boiler cupboard and inhale some paint

Shockingly i managed to spray them without passing out :D

So what do you think, think it'll match the calipers :D

PS i used washing machine weights to hold them while they dryed

looking good mate. Just the springs to go, and youll be halfway down to my level :hi:

Ground Floor Please, Ding!

I'm intrigued as to why you might want to fit vRS shox on a heavier diesel though? They're not much cop in the vRS as new IMO. I've not long replaced mine for stock, and can't wait till I can afford to get new uprated springs and shocks as the car is too bouncy, and I can't imagine it's going to be much better in the diesel, especially on the front end...

Well my front end is like playing basketball and well i plan to run lowering springs with the vrs stuff for a stiffer ride.

being the tdi there is only a slight bit of weight on the front end

as demonfu said, they aren't weighted correctly for your car, and if they as they are used already chances are they won't be great anyway due to the fact that socks like brakes deteriorate over time.

That will ride as bad if not worse mate! You're better getting NEW specific weighted (OEM or lowered) springs/dampers for your chariot!

Save your time, do it right once, otherwise you'll end up taking it all off again soon enough, proper tracking isn’t cheap either - this will need to be done each time it’s all swapped over too.....

Steve

Especially if you're going lower than a standard vRS ride height, that will knacker those standard shox in no time at all.. Honestly, those shox are a BAD idea. vRS suspension IS crap and bouncy as standard, and it's just going to be worse in your motor.

I'd go for something more specific/uprated. And just fit an aftermarket uprated MkIV golf anti roll bar and some superpro drop link bushes if that is one of your concerns. I really don't think the vRS setup is going to move you in the right direction here, unless you go for uprated vRS compatible springs and shox.

Shox alone are NOT going to make your ride stiffer. Shox are about damping and rebound rate, the springs will have more effect on the stiffness.

The rears probably won't be a vast improvement either, but may be passable, as long as you're not planning to go below vRS ride height, but if you are, it's game over really.

I have to disagree. They are weighted for 1,100 kg iirc, and when changed from my stock to these these the difference was very noticeable. Read the spec on vrs shocks and they're damping compared to stock, there's a lot of threads on it.

But the quality is crap, and the expected life is very low, if going below stock levels.

Spec. does not necessarily make a product that works well.

The difference was more likely very noticeable because your old suspension was completely shagged, rather than the vRS setup being an improvement. There are MANY octy's on the road with very tired shox, and most people don't even realise.

Compare like with like on NEW items, and THEN tell me...

Thats true of course, but we are talking doing things major budget style, of course if one has £400 to spend then new new new weitecs/kw's whatever.

Here though what you are saying is vrs is worse than standard! so take out a new octy and a new octy vrs, the octy (standard) is supposed to be better? The fact is that both sets may be old - both sets may be "shagged" but there has to be an improvement! Otherwise your thought is that vrs suspension doesnt last but standard does.

We have already established that his are tired. I have tested and know that these vrs ones arent, and are still very capable. I was on standard and tired suspension - I noticed a big difference, HE is on standard and tired suspension, why is his gonna be worse?

I agree with you ideally you would go matched springs/dampers, and a new uprated arb. Find him those things for £60 and im sure youd have a deal. His shocks were free (from me) and his springs will be £60 - will it go around a corner better than before? Yes! Will it be a little more bouncy? Of course! Will it be an improvement, looks and handling? Absolutely!

Only way to know is too do it tbh

looking for vrs springs would be a nice touch too though, 19mm drop or so.

No I'm saying NEW standard will be better than 2nd hand vRS suspension.

Agreed, costing still the issue here though.

Improvement will still be seen.
