Help/Suggestion's for a new Desktop PC

Right guy's I got everything the other day and built the computer up last night, installed windows aswell as the other driver's required.

I tried fitting my old wireless network card that was in my last computer into this one and it's not working. I've tried several place's for driver software which seem to show that it's installed the driver's but won't actually show the wireless card in place.

When I go into device manager and try and 'Scan for hardware changes' it come's up installing new drivers, it comes up with device driver's weren't correctly installed.

It then show's up in Device manage under 'Other devices'

Network controller and PCI Simple Communications controller. Both say the driver's for the device aren't installed (code 28)

The network card I'm using is a D-Link DWL G520+, It was in my old computer which was also running windows 7.

Any help upon on the matter with be most welcome.

Try the D-link website for the latest drivers. Are you running 64-bit Windows 7 now?

I thought I selected 64 bit window's but seems I've installed 32 bit so nevermind haha. I've tried the D-Link website, last driver update was a fair few years ago and I have tried that but still doesn't seem to work. From what I've seen around the net a few people seem to have this issue with the driver's

Managed to sort the PCI simple controller out, had forgot something from the Motherboard disc which needed installing, but still having major headaches with the wireless card. I can go into device manager and click on 'update driver software' and browse my computer and pick the item I'm trying to install from a list of devices.

Clicked on network adapters, and can actually find my correct wireless card in the listing under D-Link, selected that but comes up with an error saying 'A service installation section in this INF is invalid'

Any help will be most useful I'm even thinking of going buying a newer wireless card just to get it up and on the net, but it's more money I could do without spending tbh

First install all the drivers and software that came with the new MoBo. Then go on your WiFi's card manufacturer's website and download all the software and drivers for your wireless PCI card. In my experience sometimes such cards need that software installed ad be managed through it to get it working. I installed all the drivers without software before and was not getting anywhere really but as soon as I installed their proprietary soft it just clicked and worked seamless:). The only problem you may have (also happened to me) is if your card is very old ad discontinued then manufacturer no longer supports it and you will not have the most up to date soft and drivers available. Then installing from the original disc which came with the card is your best option. I was always fighting battles with WiFi cards and connectivity and whenever I can I go with cables :). Hope it helps

Hi there,

I've got some drivers and software for DLink stuff knocking about somewhere but I think it's for the G650 Airplus EXtreme so I'm guessing no use to you?

Does it have to be wireless, how far from router are we talking?

You might want to revisit the 32 Vs 64bit issue before you go too much further. Otherwise you've wasted your money on the memory. 32bit can address more than 3Gb so the other 5 won't get used.

It's not far but the parent's have a thing about running cable's and they will just moan. We are soon upgrading to BT infinity so would I ideally need to uprate the wireless card I'm using to cope with the higher speed's or not?

I'm just upgrading to 64bit now and then will try once again to sort this wireless card out, it's doing my head in not being able to get onto the internet with it yet.

How are you posting now? If it's off a laptop via Wi-Fi you could always share the connection to the new PC and use it online that way for a bit.

It might even automatically find drivers on its own that way, but I doubt that bit will happen.

Yeah currently using my laptop with built in wireless card. I tried connecting the tower upto my laptop last night late on but was too tired and didn't have a clue how to get it to work to allow the computer to connect via the laptop any tips on how to do it?

Try a BIOS reset as well. Sometimes does the trick even when nothing seems to change.

Buying new yes, second hand no.

Only adding benefit of both worlds for any future upgrades of any ('Microsoft' - 'Apple') Operating System at low cost outlay.
