Real-world mpg of Fabia VRS DSG?

Featured Replies

Dammit! I will miss my Lupo TDi then... 400 miles on 32 litres of diesel! 50/50 motorway (70-80mph) and winding, hilly B-roads. I am really tempted to mothball that motor-even now it is neigh in impossible to find a low mileage TDi Sport anywhere...

Well, after driving my brothers for a week I managed to get 300 miles from a tank and thats in Sport mode all the time

You seriously drove in Sport mode all the time?

Well in the week that I had my brothers with him filling it up I wasn't going for MPG to be honest

I want a brother like that!

At 60mph, mine will get to about 42MPG on my 5 mile commute on dual carriageways. If I do 70mph, it will not go above 37MPG.

A few hypermiling techniques help, such as lifting off well in advance of roundabouts (traffic permitting of course) and the MPG will shoot up 2 or 3.

On a long journey from Wales the other week, with the two of us and luggage, I got 44mpg inc. much motorway at 80. (W to E with wind behind, this makes a big difference).

On a recent 15 mile journey on 30, 40 and 50 mph limits, I got 47 mpg.

I have never, ever seen 50mpg, even driven very, very carefully.

Tony

With 9K on the clock it seems to be settling in to a 43 mpg on the computer but I did get 51 mpg on the computer coming back from Liverpool to the West Midlands and driving like Miss Daisy and using a few hyper-miling techniques ie burn and coast, picking out the transit vans to slip stream, not very close but 20m or so back.

Love the engine. Have not run our Octy TSI against the Fabia TSI but the Fabia feels quicker and you do not have to get the perfect gear change as the box does it for you. Octy is manual and did not want the 6 speed DSG as had a couple of those and once you have had 7 speeds, including one one on a 1.8 TSI the 6 speed feels old technology.

Driving from one side of Birmingham to the other yesterday (straight through the middle), MFD showed 47mpg - and that was without really trying.

43mpg on the way home via Motorway - bit busy so 70-75 was the most I got upto. Much clearer this morning, so 38mpg...

The cold mornings are very good for consumption, once the oil is up to temp.

today i had 47 mpg, over 160 plus miles and really not trying.

No Oil usage now for 1500 quite hard use miles.

(no top ups other than an ickle drop, for 3000 before that)

Having seen those speedo piccies I can only assume they were taken either during a morning dyno run or on a private road George ;).

Funny thing in the manual ad they say that during winter months (generally when colder) fuel consumption will be higher. So what, when there is more oxygen available and to retain as close to stochiometric as poss combustion mixture it pumps more fuel in?

Having read that VAG doc describing workings of the 1.4TSi there seemed to an no-boost operation mode described there... Or perhaps the manual is rather generic and goes for all engines... Of course it is, silly me!

At low rpm, the surpercharger isn't permanently engaged - a little throttle is needed to get the tell tale "click" (if windows are open).

If going by the "miles on a tank" figure, trip + range = 430 at the moment. 7500 miles on the clock, and it is already 3 or 4mpg better then when I got it (George will agree that they loosen up as the miles get piled on).

Colder temperatures = longer to warm up, so the enrichment phase lasts longer. First 2 or 3 miles from cold start shows 27-30mpg on the average consumption on the MFD - after about 6 or 7 miles its well into the high 30's (or even the low 40's).

Mine has only done 1100 miles but I get about 38-40 mpg on the few tank fulls I've used so far. I'm guessing it improves. I haven't checked the tyre pressures at all and trusted the dealer I collected it from. I'll be checking tomorrow. 2.5 bar for everyday conditions??

Not read through the thread just the OP question. I owned a mk2 fabia vrs for 10,000 and on my commute to work at 12miles i got about 46mpg on the maxidot and on the way back about 36mpg, total round town i averaged worked out was 31mpg and thats not hanging about all the time. On a 220mile run to portsmouth i did in it the car averaged 44mpg with a full boot and 2 people in it.

The other thing to look out for is oil consumption, i burnt 750ml in 300miles on my first engine and in total 5 litres over the 10,000 miles which i owned the car for. If that is a cost to take in to consideration which i know is not a lot at about £45 for 4L but just a consideration.
