SMS Text & E-mails on MFD & Columbus unit?

Featured Replies

Is it possible for SMS and e-mails to appear on the MFD and or columbus unit from an HTC mobile?

HTC connects fine via blue-tooth for music streaming and phone calls and using voice commands to select contacts.

Can incoming audio alerts be set up for incoming sms and e-mails or displayed on MFD?

Can the unit be set up for reading out sms and e-mails via the voice command controls?

If yes how do you set any of the above up or does anyone have any links?

No, that is only possible via the rSap protocol (old units) which is not supported by new phones.

So you can not even display text messages on the MFD on a 2012 year model?

When I set my Nokia into Remote SIM mode and connect it via bluetooth then the SMS messages come up on the columbus, and not on the phone.

I don't think you can get emails to come up on the head unit though.

I have also used the SMS.

Any chance of some tips instructions on how to set up the remote sim mode to be able to read sms on MFD?

Cant find any instructions.

Do i need to delete the phone and connect / pair it from scratch again in a different way or is there a setting some where i cant find?

Also all the extra tab options are all greyed out is this because not connecting via remote sim mode for conference call options etc?

Many Thanks

Text - Yes, 2012, but depends on phone. (HTC phones are Windows 6.5 that will work - rSAP dropped in windows mobile 7)

Email - no, never been able.

Just been trying to find any unticked options on my HTC Sensation Android phone, MFD screen and Columbus settings but can not find any text options to display on the MFD.

Any advise?

Android phones can work using rSap, it depends on the version of Android that you have.

I have a Samsung S3. When I first got it (a couple of months ago) rSap was not on it and I could only connect via BT/HFP and could do calls and stream music, access the phonebook etc.

Last week there was an update to the version of Android and I now have rSap, allowing me to chose between connecting with HFP or rSap over BT. I choose which by selecting Premium or Handset on the MFD under the phone/setting menu option.

When I choose Premium/rSAP I then choose to allow access to my SIM (the phone asks whether to allow or not) I then lose the internet functionality on my phone but am able to receive/read SMS on the Columbus and MFD and to send SMS via Columbus in addition to everything that I had using HFP, plus better signal strength.

Prior to having rSap on my phone selecting Premium behaved exactly the same as the Handset option, in fact I wondered what was so premium about it!

Now I get extra menu options, in addition to SMS related options. Some options I don't quite understand and will no doubt start a thread on it once I have had a longer look. I can find no reference to the extra menu options in the manual nor on the internet which is very frustrating!

If you can update the OS, that may give you the ability to do rSap. If not consider looking at http://www.android-rsap.com/ , at your own risk.

FYI, My car was built in June/July 2012

My phone's OS is Android 4.0.4. My initial OS update took it to 4.0.4 but did not include rSap. A couple of weeks later there was another update, it remained at 4.0.4 but now I have rSap.

PS, never had email functionality on Columbus or MFD.

Not quite true. Samsung included rsap with Android 2.3.x for various models. Somehow they left it out in Android 4.0.3, but since version 4.0.4 (and 4.1.x) they have included it again in their stock roms. So also a brand new Galaxy S3 will support rsap.

There are lots of replies about android phones what about iPhones ?

iPhone doesn't support rsap, so you just get Bluetooth hands free and media playing.

If you're jailbroken though you can download an rSAP server. Costs $20 mind.
