Sill repair? - metal thickness?

Featured Replies

Being as I can't find sill repair panels for my truck (anyone used hatchback ones on a truck?) I plan to patch them up using some sheet steel (an old filing cabinet pulled from the skip at work!) Or buy some if the reused stuff is gash! What thickness of steel should I be using? The file cabinet steel is 0.75mm thick seem a bit thin to me? What say you lot? I don't want to have to do it again next year cos the steel I used is too thin.

If you can get sills at all, use them, bit of modding needed at back-- got a pair stashed for the caddy pickup.

Thought they were all gone now. Let us know if you`ve found a source.

Just ordered a pair of sill from the bay, the LH one was the last one the stockist had. There were others on there but were more pricey. Aparentley the bloke a Cranes in Marsham, Norfolk has some actual pick up sills, along with various other bits (Inner rear wings, etc etc) I did pop down to see him a few months ago (I live 5 mile away from him) Quite a frustrating visit, trying to get a price out of him was nigh impossible. He didnt want to sell them. 'No you don't want to do that, patching them is the best way' he said. It's a rel Alladin's cave. He has two electric Forman pick ups, a low milage Rapid, loads and loads of interesting bits. He just didn't really seem to want to part with anything though. It was probably an hour or so before I managed to get a price, which was alright, nowt more though!

On a positive note I dragged some boiler cowling out of the bins at school today, nice thick steel. I just have to shake the reputation of worlds pikiest teacher!

Better than been on the headline I guess...lol

I used sills designed for the felicia hatchback to good effect. Just cut off the bit you don't need (where the rear door would be).
