Detailed the RS for the winter

Featured Replies

I detailed the RS during the week. Washed the car, clayed the paint, washed the car again, dryed the car and machined polished with a DA6 Pro polisher using farecla G12 and farecla yellow waffel pad. Then refined with Concept nano polish with rotary polisher, jet washed to remove any dust dried again and finished to colinite 915 wax with 2 coats. Would have posted pics but reached my limit :(

Thanks for looking

They are fantastic. Just buy good quality pads, hexlogic are good and decent polishes and it will make the job easier.

How did you spend doing it? I am asking as I am pondering whether investing in a polishing machine, pads and compounds would make sense? I will be selling a 10yr old car as was wondering if giving it a paint job polish would really increase its value. Paint is really good, very shiny, but has those round like tiny scratches (there is a name for them !) which you can see from really close with either sunlight or strong torchlight reflecting off the paintwork. When clean and waxed looks like new from two paces away as it is. Exception is rather poor looking alloys... How much would it be to restore heavily curbed all around 15" alloys of really simple design?

Generally £50-60 per alloy. I think you need to take them off and leave them meaning you need spare wheels.

Not worth it then... It would have to £150 max with them coming to me to make financial sense really...

I think around £200 isnt too bad for a full set of spanking new looking wheels. I have a guy who does it in an industrial unit about 5 mins drive from my house so its handy. Saying that i havent used him yet but the guy who does bodywork for me recommended him.

the powdercoaters near me charge between 50-70 depending on who you ask,i would give them a quick spray or vinyl wrap(if there is such thing as quick??)

I think they will need more that spraying as rims are well kerbed and would need lathe turning? I don't know really.., perhaps it'd make more sense to buy second hand alloys?

jcdub thats one fine looking octy in the best colour with the best mod completed (grill surround colour coded) keep her lit.

I think I'd like it even more with "black" lamps :)

jcdub,

Just curious as to why you used a DA and a Rotary?

Looking good though.

I use a DA and a rotary although the other way around. The rotary is very quick at removing defects and swirls. The DA is great for refining the paint prior to sealing and also for applying the paint cleaner.

depends on how the paint is and the polish is breaking down i usually cut with a rotary and refine to a perfect finish with a DA to remove any chance of holograms etc.

^^ LOL

That is exactly what I meant to ask.

Why DA Then Rotary?

I would have imagined it the other way round?

I only ever use a DA
