Help me, 312mm brakes.

Featured Replies

Hi,

After hours of searching across a whole host of VAG forums I still cannot find the 312mm callipers/carriers.

I am aware there is a full set going on Ebay at the moment but my budget doesnt stretch that far right now.

If anyone know where I could just get the callipers/carriers from it'd be appreciated.

Also, whilst on topic, do I need the wear sensor or can I use the existing one on my Fabia vRS ( does it have one  ), also do all the existing bolts/mounts that maybe needed to fit the callipers/carriers switch straight over from the existing calliper/carriers on my 288mm discs or do I need to purchase anything else i.e. larger bolts/holding clips etc (sorry if this sounds stupid but i'm not ofay with changing brakes/discs and im not sure what holds them on :o)?

Thanks!

Fabia doesnt have a wear sensor, and in anycase they come with the pads themselves...

From memory of mine being fitted you can use all the existing bolts etc (correct me if I am wrong someone) just need the calipers/carriers and disks...

hth :)

And pads? or do the exisiting ones from the 288mm setup work?

Nope you'l need new pads I am afraid :(

Some people dont rate them but I am running EBC Greenstuff pads... Braking is imense when there bedded in and absolutly zero brake dust

Apparently (some of?! ) the '05 ones do have wear sensors. I know mine definitely doesn't

Yes. Brake pads with wear indicators are listed in the Fabia parts list.

Strange, my 288s take the same pad part number as my 312s did

We also have a promotion for pagid blue's on at the moment.

Jon, could you talk to the detailed contact about the 288 part size / number and 312 compatability as they were looking to the Fabia pattern in DE, but none was available immediatly.

288mm brakes on the Octavia are different, to upgrade to 312mm all you need to change is the carrier. Fabia vRS uses a different caliper and thus different pads.

The onsite guide tells you all the parts you need for 312mm brakes on Fabia vRS.

Thanks for clearing that, thought some change might of occured that made it possible...good good...so more upgrades :D

But pagid are looking to making a uprated pad for the Fabia pattern at some point ;)

 I heard some really bad things about EBC and the brake fade and dust and the fact that they take a while to heat up but then dont last more than a few mins before dieing again etc, but if your running the Octavia vRS alloys on yours and your not getting ANY brake dust then i'm certainly getting some as I cant tell you how bad the brake dust is on my car after just 1 week with the new alloys, the alloys really are BLACK.

I ran EBC Greenstuff on my Scooby and would never use them again. The greens are the fast road/light track ones. Generate tonnes of brake dust and they also warped my "unwarpable" Godspeed discs as they left deposits on them, leading to hotspots. Best to go with Ferrodo DS2500's or Mintex (if you can live with the squealing ;))

Probably just choose the OEM discs and pads for the time being then :D

I heartily recommend doing a search on 247spares.com which turned up over half a dozen sets last time I did a search, from as little as a ton with postage, and including minimal wear discs and pads. Personally I'd get new pads and discs though - plain brembo discs and normal-spec ferodo pads will set you back a further

Standard ferodo pads work well, no fade and not a single squeal to be heard - they also cost less than

I have used a lot of different types of race pads in my Boxster for track use including EBC, Ferodo Mintex & porterfield & have reached the following conclusions

1) all race pads give loads of dust when used hard

2) they wear out quickly when used hard. my Porterfields lasted 1 weekend at the Nurburgring GrandPrix track.

3)The more extreme the pad the worse it is for the road. They are best when kept hot.

4) Real warped brake disks are rare. I have had this problem & when we skimmed them the run out was less than 1 thou which is nothing. The real problem is uneven pad transfer. You have to bed in these pads by overheating them then letting them cool naturally without using the brakes. When you come to a halt with hot brakes do not sit with your foot on the pedal or use the handbrake. park up with it in gear. If you do get judder you can clean up the disks by some very hard braking. Try driving for a bit with left foot on brake ,right on throttle. I thought my Ferodo DS performance pads were **** when I got judder but now realise I wasn't using them correctly.

5) all the above is based on 6000 miles of track use last year & really says track pads are for track use where dust, squealing, rapid wear & other problems are par for the course. Road pads are more than good enough for the road. I always change back when I have finished a track session.

performance friction pads are great i love the sparks lol
