Aerial and how to remove

Featured Replies

I unscrewed my aerial to replace it with a shorter one and after unscrewing it it does not want to come off, i assume there is a wire holding it in, any one have any tips about how to get to this wire?

Joel

Just unscrew it until it flops down onto the little retaining bar/lug thingy and then pull it medium hard and it will come out :)

Where did you get the stubby one from by the way ? I bought a golf one from Forge and it won't fit, the thread is too short :grumpy:

from the GTI International show... fingures crossed it will fit i will try tonight...this one came with two sizes of screw thread and you vary the length its balck and cost me a fiver... i did give a little tug but will tug harder...

Joel

The Forge one will fit. Get a very small Allen (sp?) key and just unscrew the thread a few turns.

I guy at my work has a 02 plate Seat Leon and when he tried to remove his aerial it turned out the screws inside has sheared off. He was able to unscrew but when he pulled it just wouldn't budge. hope this isn't the same problem but Dealers should fix under warranty!

Hope this is of some help!!

On the Octy they are "anti-theft" which means they aren't meant to be removable.

So was i mis-informed by my dealer? he told me the ariel could be removed so it could be put through a car wash. (Not that i ever would).

Sorry, let me explain. I thought they couldn't be removed... but I was wrong. I was put straight by a very knowledgeable chap :)

Rich, if this is correct (I'll check when I get home) then I owe you a chocolate biscuit :)

You owe me a chocolate biscuit :D

Edit: Have to say that reception does suffer a little. Got to be worth ten brake though.

Just realised that i've left the aerial in the boot of my abandoned Rover in Stoke Rich. You have the benefit of my doubt for a week :)

OK - i'm confused now. That post talks about pulling and snapping some barbs, which to me implies the aerial is now broken (or at the very least shouldn't come off). Have i missed something?

Right. From the start.

The Octavia aerial once unscrewed has a 'lip' at the bottom of the thread that prevents it from being fully removed. Anti-theft I guess. With a good pull you can remove it but it is scary ie you see the roof flex a little and you're convinced you're going to break something. You're not snapping anything just pulling the aerial past it's stop. Technically it's not broken but I can't see how you'd get it back on again without removing the housing on the roof. In my case the replacement Forge aerial just needs the thread extending a little to fit.

Note. On other VAG cars the thread does not need to be extended. This may apply to the Fabia too if the mount is the same as a Polo.

Thanks

Just to add that the old aerial will push right back in and screw up as new if required :D
