For the love of God.......... make it STOP!

Featured Replies

What you may ask...... my bloody window wipers really badly juddering and squeaking. Its unbearable and does it even when its raining quite heavily. Sometimes I need to switch the wipers off in order to allow the rain to coat the front screen in order to stop the noise. I was going to post a video on YouTube to show how bad its is! I'm sure other drivers can hear them.!!!

I only replaced the blades 4 months ago. They are Bosch ones from halfords. I've also tried polishing my glass with autoglm glass polish but it makes no difference.

Its it because the Bosch blades are rubbish? If so are VAG ones any better or are another type/brand recommended.

Please help before I rip my ears off!!! :@

Sounds like the rubber in the blades is very hard. Isn't the blade on the wiper supposed to flip over when it's going from side to side, sounds like your's isn't.

Try some different ones.

You say you have cleaned the window, but have you tried cleaning the wiper blades themselves?

Could be a build up of muck along the blade

clean the blades and screen with vinegar

I've clean both the blades & screen with the Autogiym glass polish - made little difference.

Not tried vinegar - probably best use white vinegar & not Sarsons Malt Vinegar!! LOL!

Where do most people get there wiper blades? Are VAG ones different to the Bosch ones from Halfords? My misses has a 55 plate Golf Plus & the wipers on that are the original ones. They're great, dont squeak or judder & work brilliantly, never needed changing since the day she brought the car from new. I'm currently on my 3 set in the space of 18 months!

AG Glass polish wont clean the blades it'll only clog them up.

Take to them with a good hot sponge of soapy water, dry then go over them with the aforementioned vinegar to remove any muck.

Then use Rain-X or other suitable rain repellent on them applying some onto a piece of kitchen roll folded in quarters. Running the blades across the rain-x, you'll be surprised at the muck off them.

Failing that get some new blades off eBay and send a complaint to Bosch with proof of purchase if possible.

I dont rate Bosch at all for longevity. I've had cheapo Ebay blades on for ages and they're fine.

New blades shouldn't do this and I have never had to clean the blades, polish the windscreen etc to make the noise go away. I'm assuming this has not happened on previous blades you have had? I'm guessing the blades might be defective so I'd just go and complain and see if you can get them exchanged. I personally rate the bosch blades and have never had any issues with them other than they get noisy when they are due for replacement.

Best thing for cleaning muck off windscrrens...? I had some kind of wax finisher on my screen when I bought the car, rain was just terrible and the screen would be impossible to see through. Tried a great number of things - brake cleaner is quite good, but still it persisted.... then I came across the solution - toothpaste  really works

4 months through the summer - they may be shot.

The suggested toothpaste and a new set (Aldi do great cheap ones) are suggested.

Might also be worth emptying washer bottle, cleaning and refilling in case there's something nasty got in there.

Our of interest are they definately the correct size. I had this on a rear wiper on an old car never took notice of size just swooped a juddery one for one the same size and it still juddered. Wasn't until I parked it next to another one at an owners club meet did I notice the wiper was the wrong size.

Changed for correct size and sorted no more judder

Have you checked the state of the arms and the hinge bit that the arm pivots on when you pull them up off the screen? I had a similar issue and the hinges were loose and worn so had to replace them.

Worth checking the arm adjustment in each case. Fairly recently I bought a new set on line for the Felly - great. Then decided to go back through the same supplier for the Fab - noisy & juddered! So sometimes you pay your money and take your choice + dearer aren't necessarily better ;)

I use Bosch aero flat blades from Euro Car Parts.

Had them months now and still really really good.

I treat the windscreen with Rain-X. Never had juddering.

I think I'm going to get a new set from EuroCarParts.

I 'think' I have the correct size & use the Halfords flip chart guide book to get the right code but they can be notouriously wrong. However, they were the same size as the ones I've removed. One thing that did puzzle me is there are two types - one with a curved profile blade & one with a straight profile - I think this is for the smaller passenger side blade though & was advised to buy the curved type. I still have the Bosch box at home so will take a look later.

The wiper arms/mechanism does look fooked, it judders & flexes as it sweeps across the glass.

Will look at getting some Rain X

I have exactly the same, Bosch bought from Halfords, juddering and noisy.

^ Does this mean the Bosch ones from EuroCarParts are the same?

Just had a look on the ECP website and they do several sizes for the Super Plus wiper with Spoiler. Which is the correct size for the VRS? And do they come as a pair?

Skoda's official universal fit flexi-blades are just repackaged Bosch Aerotwins, I bought some from TPS about 2 months ago. Been working fine. Could be your wiper arms need bending (carefully) to correct the blade angle on the screen?

Previously had Bosch Super Plus blades and they were fine too, driver's side juddered a bit towards the end but I fixed it by flipping the blade around.

Go on eBay - Get some new and cheap ones from there.

Are the wiper arms bent? Maybe someone has bent the arms?

Just ordered two front blades from EurocarParts, Bosch Aerotwins

485778190 - 19"

485778210 - 21"

Just under £17 delivered (with Briskoda discount). Bargain.

Hopefully these will be better.

Aero wipers are brilliant, had them on my polo. Couldn't fault them :)
