Interesting Comparison Facts - (Or Not!)

Featured Replies

I have said before that if Sir Alex Issigonis had our modern technology available when he designed the Mini, he would have come up with something very like the Citigo, Up!, Mii family. So I thought I would do a few comparisons (I have used conversion tables to get the equivalents) :

1963/64 Mk1 Mini Cooper S 1071cc v Citigo 999cc 75 Greentech

Cooper

Power - 70 bhp (71PS) @ 6,200 rpm

Torque - 84NM @ 4,500 rpm

0 - 60 mph 13.5 secs

Top speed 92mph

Weight 650kg approx.

Citigo

Power - 74 bhp (75PS) @ 6,200rpm

Torque - 95NM @ 3,000 to 4,300 rpm

0 - 62 mph 13.2 secs

Top speed 107 mph

Weight 865kg.

Before someone asks I had better include the Mk1 1275S too!!

Power - 76 bhp (77PS) @ 5,800rpm

Torque - 107NM @ 3,000rpm

0 - 60 mph approx 11.0secs (road tests vary between 10.5 to 11.2 secs.)

Top speed 97mph

Weight 650kg approx.

Very interesting.

I wonder if someone can do cost comparisons, in relation to average earnings.

As we know the citigo comes with far superior equipment, so a true like for like comparison is not really possible.

Talking about Sir Alex Issigonis, the Citygo reminds me more of the Morris Minor/1000 for some reason.

Size, weight, engine, two or four door...

Not bad power figures for the Mini given that it's from the olden days. Bet the emissions would read a bit differently though!

I suspect if you parked a Citigo next to an old Mini the Citigo would look massive though.

And have you noticed, going of track slightly, the most recent Mini looks nothing like a Mini. I thought it looked more like a Rav4 or wanting to take on a 4x4 sort of look.

The 1963 1071 Cooper S cost £695 (I think that is ex-works - in those days you also had to add delivery, number plates and RF tax costs too). But using the ex-works price £695 equates to a 2010 price of £11,696.85 (It would obviously be greater at 2012 inflation levels), which makes the Citigo 75PS Greentech a real bargain in comparison!!

They have so many different models now including a coupe. I still like the basic Mini First or One.

A few months ago a BMW dealer down South had one of the last Mini Cooper Sport 500s i think it was a 2000 model priced at £13000.It did look in mint condition with a low mileage, but what a price seeing as they were about £8000 new.
