Water found in spare wheel well

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Can't say I've noticed before, but the other day I had to sort out the boot as we were packing away our belongings after a holiday in Cornwall.

As I was doing this I noticed the spare wheel (unused) was wet.

Further inspection found about 2cm of water sloshing around under the spare wheel.

I've no idea how it got there and how long its been there.

Did'nt seem that old as it was'nt smelly or dirty looking.

I never have had any reason to go into the wheelwell before but now I'm glad I did.

Anyone had same issue or can offer any advice?

Its a 2010 FL petrol vRS.

Its going in for a service next month so I will get the stealer to have a look at it but would be good to know what the issue is beforehand.

Cheers in advance.

What colour was it? Did it have a slightly white appearance/residue?

Could be screenwash or could be water getting in through the holes where the bumper is attached.

Does your rear wash/wipe work?

Yes I had the same problem when I was in the middle of having rear PDC fitted. The guy brought to my attention about an inch of water sloshing about. Once cleared he just re sealed all possible grommets where wiring enters the boot at the rear near the bumper, and so far so good.

It's more than likely the screen wash pipe that feeds the rear wash wipe is leaking. It is routed through the boot and is a common fault. I know the previous owner of my car had this fault and it was repaired by Skoda.

Do a search on this forum & I think you'll find a few references to this fault.

Good luck.

100% leaking pipe to the rear wash.

Get it sorted quick as it will be leaking on to the connectors for the rear lights and the PDC if fitted, and is quite corrosive.

Lots of threads on here about it.

I've had this problem since I bought my car over 2 years ago, coming in between the seal and the tailgate, tried all sorts of things inc a new seal without success. I'm not happy about this but having to live with it and dry out the wheel well on a regular basis.

Local specialist who works on Taxis told me lots of them leak.

Thats really interesting reading guys.

I had no idea that washer fluid leakage was a common issue.

Gives me plenty to investigate and mention to the dealer next month.

Appreciate your feedback and time.

Thank you,

Jesus.

Have Skoda still not fixed the crappy rear washer pipe, even on the facelift?

This has been an issue with all MKII Octavia's, that's 8 years they've had to fit stronger joints.

What will it take!

Whats the chances that the first winter after the MkIII launch we'll be sat here listening to the same issue!?

Thank you,

Washer fluid is responsible in many, probably even most cases. The bumper issue is also common - which is why it's a good idea to work out if it's rain or screenwash.......

Another regular check to add to my list :-

Coolant, oil, washer fluid, tyre pressures and tread, water in spare wheel well and leaves behind the front wheel liners.
