I have just taken ownership of my first every skoda and everything appears to be fine with the car car, i have read in the manual about the information display panel between the dials but i cant seem to get mine to work.

Holding down any of the buttons on the right hand stalk does nothing... the car is a 07 plate fabia vrs SE.

When i open any of the car doors i get a small picture of a car in red and it shows a door is open so i think the panel works?

I have done a search but im confused as there appears to be two types of info displays?

There are two types, your car doesn't have maxidot so doesn't have that display.

Hi just wondering how to know if a Fabia's got the trip computer as I am soon going to buy one. We took the car for a test drive, and I noticed it had the display, however there was no information on it.It was a Fabia Ambient, 2005 model.Cheers

If the car has factory fitted Sat Nav system, it will have the "maxidot" display, as it is known. Otherwise there is just a series of warning lights where the display would be. The vast majority of Fabias don't have maxidot display because sat nav was a very expensive option that not many buyers specified.

It is almost nigh on impossible to retrofit maxidot.

Not sure if all MkI Fabias have trip computers but all vRS ones certainly do. It's the small LCD display within the rev counter, a rocker switch on the end of the right stalk allows you to flick the various functions.

On the wiper stalk is a rocket switch on the end, and a 'reset' button on the underside of the stalk. Using those should operate the computer, which I think lives in the display in the speedo? (Or rev range, I can't remember how they're laid out!)
