Window disappeared into door panel

Featured Replies

Hi,

I raised the passenger window and heard a click, when I lowered it again it wouldn't go back up; the motor was just turning. I then let it down a bit more and it disappeared into the door panel. Just as well I have a garage to put it in or not sure what I'd do. :wonder:

Can someone please tell me how to fix this? Hoping someone can advise me on what to do before I tell my OH.

I swear have looked for an answer but can't find anything.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks, Linda

The window regulator has failed, only solution is to take the door apart and replace it. The current one will be riveted to the door, so replacement is not very straight forward.

I would be taking the door card off and seeing if the glass is still on its runners and that the mechanism to push and pull the window is still in tact, if the motor is still going then at least you know they work

@ Mannyo. . . Oh wow, not having much luck lately. :(

But thank you so much for the swift reply. Now, do I phone him or leave it til he comes home?

Thanks again

Pre warned is pre armed

Worth a phone call and then move out?

Thank you for that, I'll get him to look at it tomorrow. I think it's best I don't touch ANYTHING at all.. :p

What year is your car?

The earlier Fabia had the carrier bolted rather than riveted, and it makes the job much much easier :)

It's a 53 plate. :)

You'll probably find that it's bolted on then. Rather than drilling it off, you simply get out a 10mm socket and undo it :)

Regulator repair kits can be had for ~£20 on eBay

Sam, mine's a 53 plate and riveted, that needs a drill and HSS bit to remove the rivets. Door card off job either way :)

Does that mean the regulator has definitely gone then? Or could it be it's just came out of its housing? Hehehe, sorry, obviously not a clue what I'm talking about, just hoping.

Oh, and I've just phoned my OH and he said, and I quote "oh dear" lol.. Thought he'd go mental cos it's been one thing after another lately.. :p

Ahh, so is mine, and mine is bolted on.

IIRC, it changed some time early 04.

Yeah, the plastic bracket that holds it all together usually breaks, then the cable wraps itself around everything and frays.

Repair kits come with new brackets and cables.

I bought four doors from an 03 plate Fabia for mine. Three were bolted, one is riveted. Turns out the drivers door wasn't original, so you never can tell..lol

Erm, just a thought. Is there any way, as a temporary fix, I can take the door panel off and just get the window up; without actually fixing the regulator? Obviously I wouldn't be able to use the window.

I only ask cos I need my car for work. I'm off the next two days but not sure I'll be able to get it properly fixed by then.

:)
