Socket/bit size for front brakes.

Featured Replies

I've tried searching. The 312mm upgrade topic in technical guides states "18mm bolts" for the carrier to hub bolts.

I want to replace my 80K mile front disks for the shiny new Pagid ones in the box in the lounge. From recent threads I figure the carrier has to move for the disks to drop off. I've had a look under the car when I rotated my tyres the other day, I seem to have spline socketed bolts holding the carriers on.

I'd like to know the size before I go and order the wrong spline bit set and more mahoosive breaker bar....

Also like to plug Axminster power tools as having a reasonablly priced range of Proxxon (brand) sockets and accessories... Handy if there's one close by.

Cheers,

J.

If you have standard brakes then you don't need anything special just a good allen key. They are pretty much a standard size so you can buy one with a handle - labelled 'brake key' - at any accessory store

Which brakes do you have?

If its the standard ones then the caliper is held onto the carrier by two 12mm bolts

If its the 312mm brakes then they are held on with two 7mm Allen key sliders.

Carriers on both set ups are held on with 18mm bolts as said.

Never mind... I don't know what I checked/found in the week but it wasn't the carrier bolts. Indeed, they're a normal 18mm bolt.
