Picked up my Octavia VRS today ( 60 plate TFSI - pearlescent black )

Featured Replies

Well, well, well...

I've fallen in love with it. Maybe the fact that I've only driven a 1.8 Renault scenic for the last years has helped with this love affair but wow !!!

I've been grinning since the moment I picked it up from the Skoda dealership 200 miles away from home.

Took it to a petrol station 5 mins away from the dealer and filled her up ready for the journey home. As I was admiring her through the petrol station window and paying for my fuel I saw another motorist literally get out of his 4x4 and give mine the closest and most admiring look. He was literally putting his hands against the side window, walking all around my car and looking inside. Jesus, I felt proud and protective of the new love of my life. As I returned to my car he commented on what a great looking car it was ( inside and out ). Couldn't help bragging that I'd just travelled 200 miles to pick it up. You really don't see many VRS's on the road. Feel like I've got myself a little gem !

  • Wait six months then get a stage 1 remap and a stiffer rear anti roll bar. Will give you the smiles all over again.

  • Oh right... Learning all the time. Thanks

  • It's a gem isn't it? I notice a lot of people staring at mine. A lot more than used to look at my BMWs!

I will take pics tomorrow and put them on here. Regret having two glasses of wine now. Want to take her for a night drive !

Oh well, tomorrow morning down the country roads it is then !

hatch or estate ?

Hatch. Can't get over the boot size. It's like a tardis !

lol tell me about it, brought estate for labrador dog, now find I have to put things down side of boot to stop him sliding around.. bet you was surprised at fuel consumption on 200mile run too..

very reliable and quick cars,

Enjoy it!

They're fun cars & useful as well, we brought home a 1 metre circular dining table + 4 chairs, which I really thought would need my Modneo estate to shift.

I've been loking at a similar car today, & wondering if I should trade in my '07 vRS for it.....

Major difference is that the newer car has a DSG box & it's a face-lift, (of course!).

Seems a bit silly to swao onw bacl vRS for another but it's low milage & an auto to boot.....

Help pleae, does anyone know what spec changes have been made to the vRS in the last two years?

As before enjoy your new car, black is such a good colour for a vRS, it makes the car a real "Q" car!

I did consider a DSG but love this manual gearbox. Shifting gears is so smooth. Wife and I are extremely impressed with it.

I've never been in the older VRS but I don't imagine there's too much difference from pocs I've seen other than the front of the car and a few slight changes to the interior ( bolero sound system for example )

Sorry about the small font size, hope that this is easier to read.....

It's a great manual box, but I've done a lot of miles n automatics & since the DSG gives the driver quite a lot of control over shifting if so desired, it's an appealing option for me.

I'm resident in Essex but the car I'm interested in is a dealer in Sittingbourne, once I've had a chat with the insurers I'll probably go back there & see if we can come to an amicable financial arrangement with them.

You're right, the interior changes seem to be confined to the sound system & an updated climatronic display.

It may have a different speaker set-up, I took a known CD with me & it sounded better than in my own car.

It does have the 3-spoke multi-function wheel with "flappy paddles", but that might have been a standard fit with the DSG box?

If I do buy it, I think that a remap is called for, 'cos I've got used to the difference in performance of the standard engine & I'd like to keep that extra edge.

If it is indeed not the old FSI-T engine but something newer / different then I'd welcome any advice regarding remapping from the resident experts!

As before, enjoy your new hi-speed taxi........

('cos it's black, innit?)

I think Shark are the experts at remapping the TSi engine and I will be visiting them myself some time in the future. Lots of good reviews on here.

At the risk of taking this thread off-topic, when did the Octavia vRS engine change, at what are the differences?

Is it a new design or a development of something older?

Just to make things more complicated, don't Skoda keep referring to a "200 PS 2.0 litre TFSi engine in their brochures whereas VW describe their basic 2.0 litre turbo as "TSi", rated at 210 / 211 ps?

Je suis confuse............

TFSI

TSI

The difference is the naming, as far as I know. And thats it.

I think they swapped over at the same time the Octy got a facelift... I haven't seen or heard of any TFSI FL's.

Can't edit, but I'll add this on.

The only major difference I know of is the intake and air filter difference - aftermarket air filters need to be made for TFSI or TSI, due to the nature of the stock filter.

The newer Tsi engine has a cam chain rather than a belt, and a smaller more efficient turbo which gives better low down torque. Bigger injectors are also fitted. :)

@ RJE Nice car BTW, same engine / colour as mine :)

Are you planning on any modding? mines now stage 1, and the results are stunning on the TSI :D

Not planned any modding. What sort of modding do you mean? I'm completely new to anything that resembles performance !

Keep it standard, 200bhp is more than ample.

The genuine Skoda rubber boot liner is good at protecting the carpet and fits perfectly, is that classed as a mod!?

If you are feeling really adventurous the front mudflaps keep a little of the winter crud off the sills and bottoms of the doors.

The only "modding" I'm genuinely interested in right now is rear parking sensors. Would they be expensive ?

Nice, have seen a few black VRS's and never really been a fan, but having seen a Black Blackline and now yours, it is growing on me, especially if kept nice and clean like yours appears to be.

The TSI is an excellent choice of engine, performs really well, however, I changed my TSI for a TDI version just becuase the TSI engine is so happy being raced and puts big smiles on your face that you end up giving it the beans a lot of the time that your MPG goes for a burton, just beware of a possible injector issue on that engine, one of them blew on mine and it has also been reported on one or two others on here, doesnt appear to be a common issue more isolated than anything but might jsut be worth keeping an eye out for it.

As for parking sensors, you can get them fitted aftermarket, try your local auto-electrical place, I know round here a couple of places will fit colour coded ones for around £100 which isnt bad, I doubt they will be ones that integrate with the radio on teh car but its a decent price anyway.

Ok, enough waffle, enjoy the car, they are great!

Looks great, looking forward to my black estate.
