So no reverse lights?!

Featured Replies

I don't have working reverse lights, I've replaced the bulbs and the fuse to no avail...

Please help I have no idea what to check next.

When you put it into reverse with the fans on, do they change in pitch/tone? (They should go into re-circ mode when in reverse, so you're looking for the noise difference between normal and re-circ mode.)

If not, I'd suggest the switch might have failed.

Check wires to reverse switch on gearbox (round the starter area).. if wires havnt worn through then switch has probly gone.. not very expensive ;)

Another check is to run the engine, put the front wipers on and then select reverse. The rear wiper should then do one sweep.

What he says... There's so much movement on the engine it literally ripped the wires from the plug/switch!

Yep. Had this on my A3. You can repair with a plug/wires off a old set of brake pads.

Had this problem after doing the charging wire (DPF) repair on mine as I had to remove the reversing light switch plug to carry the repair out. After re-plugging in, the reversing lights did not work. I shorted across the 2 contacts in the plug with a paperclip and the lights lit up. Problem was dirty contacts in the switch itself.
