Ok so seen the advert on tv for car warranty so Thought well lets see how it goes

Went online put in my details and fabia details and get a quote back for around £350 a year screw that i think to myself i payed £400 for my 02 fabia and my insurance fully comp is £380 there is no way I'm paying another £350 a year for a warranty

Well heres the better bit. In my opinion anyways

Got a call from warranty direct today saying hey are you interested i said to the guy no way the price you quoted is same as my insurance Pritty much id be better off just hitting a tree and calling my insurance up

The jolly chap he was he laughed and kind of agreed with me but he did say they do a more basic cover for £99 a year that covers engine gearbox and all the serious bits he said if it is a fault that renders the car needing towing then the basic cover covers it.

it sounded much better to me obviously there will be limitations but he said the £350 quote i had covered everything example a electric mirror breaks its covered where id just hit eBay and do it myself

So just to let people know the quote you get on the site is to cover every silly thing on your car most of witch you can fix yourself I'm guessing

Maybe useful for some to know may not be but hey give it a go wait for them to call you back a few days later and who knows

Ive got the guy to send me out information so i know exactly what the limitations are

Lets hear everyones views

Never bothered with a warranty unless it came with the sale, then I let it run out.

I take the risk and will just take it on the chin IF it happened.

Will be useful to others though!

Ye im generraly the same when i baught my new suzuki gv last year it came with its warrenty but £99 a year for the skoda didnt seem to bad in my eyes.

Yeah doesn't seem bad at all... but can find better use of 100 notes each year!

I had a phone call perhaps off these or another extended warranty type company trying to flog me a warranty, basically my answer to them was I wasn't interested in any of it, to which the reply was, 'you will be lumped with big garage bills should your car breakdown without it'.

I came back straight away with. 'well I work in the motor trade, get parts at trade prices and I do all my own garage work so no it won't' the phone operator seemed taken back for a couple of seconds, and then decided to reply with ' But Sir it will save you money' I was amazed at how he couldn't comprehend the fact he thought it would be cheaper for me to take out this warranty than to repair my own car, I soon hung up the phone soon afterwards when he still didn't grasp I wasn't interested and never will be after yet again explaining why it wouldn't

Ye i get you there I'm just explaining my case here the guy i chatted to was pleasant obviously if your a mechanic and you get parts at trade prices then its not for you but someone like me who knows some stuff and ye i can get stuff at trade prices to but i couldn't change a cam belt if it snapped and know it would cost more than a hundred quid to sort so for some it could be a good option but my main point here was the quote the website gave me was huge and no where did it say or you can have this cover for this much less its only when i said to the guy that the price was crazy he gave me the alternative.

All I can say with these is read there small print and exclusions.

Ye agreed im just curious i always read the small print and ask all the questions under the sun he did tell me some of the exsclusions aswell

He sead hel send me out full t&cs on it so it will be an interesting read

had one of these many years ago,

had to prove car had been serviced in accordance with manufacturers schedule on a car that was 6 years old i had bought only a couple of months earlier and the dealer gave me 6 months of this warrany and had a drive shaft "fall apart" literally , needle bearings all over the road . car park exit

lot of hoops to jump through and they would only pay half the cost as a "good will gesture" as they claimed i should of spotted this issue before i bought the car and car off road for 3 weeks while they argued about repair

look carefully at the section for what invalidates the warranty (eg failing to keep car serviced, etc) and where you need to have car serviced and how you prove it

look at common faults on here, power sterring pump, bushes,EGR valve, turbo, etc and i bet you wont find many of them covered

Warranty companies usually try to wriggle out of any claim.

It's how they make money.

If they give good customer service and pay out every claim they don't make a profit, so they don't.

Just be prepared to argue the point on any claim you make.

My Dad had a policy with warranty direct and the wipers seized up.

They said it's not covered as it's fair wear and tear.

Only the car was 4 years old with 25,000 miles on the clock.

And the policy did cover wear and tear.

I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions...

We argued and got paid. The bill was more than the three year warranty. :)

They seem to have tightened the wording on policies up since then.

I avoid.

I did a quote for these for my vrs they didnt cover dual mass flywheels which is the main reason i was looking at getting the warranty
