Any One Worried Our Cars Are Worth Nothing?

Recommended Posts

All great comments above, think I was having a little panic but as I can't see myself having the money to change my car for quite some time it really doesn't matter what its worth and as also said I didn't pay much for it any way. I'll just enjoy it and plan some more mods under the radar of Mrs Porkballs.

Mine pretty much halved in value in 3 years, bought it for 5 grand in '08 and sold it for 2200 in '11. Probably cost me 2 grand in mods and repairs in that time too. I got rid as it was at 140k and starting to throw some pretty hefty bills at me but the lad that bought it doesn't seem to have had any trouble with it... it must be on 160k or more now. Yes you can pick them up for under 2 grand now but they will all have starship mileage or have been knocked about by chavs. Yes they are reliable but components only have a finite lifetime so sooner or later you'll be forking out £££s for suspension / clutch / cambelt etc.

I'd buy another mk1 but I don't think I'd have another VRS. If I had the money to spunk on modifying one I'd buy a 4x4 estate, otherwise I'd go for the TDI 90 estate. Either that or buy a Mk2, they're down to a few grand now.

See with mine, most of the expensive stuff has been done all ready, VR6 clutch/G60 flywheel, Cambelt and Pump in Feb, Coilovers, RS4 alloys, 4 x new tires which is good I suppose. Plus my mileage has dropped by at least 300 miles a month as I've moved closer to work now.

Likewise all mods nearly done so I just enjoy it. mind you don't stop me messing / fiddling about most weekends. should leave it alone really lol

Yes they are worth bugger all, but wow what a car they are. I have about £8k to spend on a new car, and I'm struggling to find anything that will do everything my Ocy can. Lots of newer cars seem to have more reported issues. I think I'm safer just keeping my well sorted VRS till she dies.

210bhp

44mpg on my daily commute

Massive boot,

Handles well enough

150mph+

had mine from new in May 2005. Payed £13625 with some extras.

never intended on selling and even tho I have had lots of shakey days I am not selling. gonna keep till I have to break her up for parts as all the mods have gone too far to just sell.

I havnt yet doubled up on price I payed but its getting close. that on every mod I put on and taken off n sold on. shame I cant buy another brand new and put the mods on it straight away. then I wouldnt need to do what I am doing to her lol.

as said tho its only worth what someone will pay and due to there being so many thats not much. even a sorted well looked after car or showroom miles like Lloyds they are still not worth much unless you get the right buyer.

Love mine to bits and when she is done (asap as I wanna try out the new bits) she will be as close to new as possible. just a shame I cant sort the exterior out but she is on 112k all be it easy granny miles.

Bought mine for £2100 4 or 5 years ago? Paid £1500 for LPG (recouped that in the first 18months) must have spent £1000 on bits and pieces and a grand when the box went bang. But everything that has been changed has improved either performance or economy or sometimes both so I'm not really out of pocket with it. Even the upgrade of the gearbox will pay for itself over time.

Current mileage: 143k

Annual mileage: 20-30k

Current cost per mile: 11p (fuel- LPG and u/l)

Current value: £6.13 and a 2 finger kitkat

Would I part with it? Not even if I won the lottery. As then it would become even more fun/economical :D

i'm not worried about the value of my car! i still remember how much i fell in love with it when i test drove it,i knew then i would always keep it! i must have spent £22k on it incl £6k buying it 3.5yrs ago.its worth alot more as parts sadly! i look around to see what i could get for that amount.....a bmw 116i with a couple of options? nah,i'll stick with the taxi, that does 0-100 in 10 secs thanks!!

When i say it mate. I mean.... well look at my thread. Its in the sig.

Stripping everything and scrubbing it up or replacing with new. Idea is to make her look as std as pos and as new as pos.

Wont be perfect on the skin tho but bay and underside will be as close as I can get.

Basically I mean no rust. All clean and painted where needed. Stripped back and primed. All parts even unseen clean. Ill bet my arches are cleaber than when i took delivery of the car.

Just like to thank everyone in this thread for reminding me how great my car is (and could be).

So many times I've thought about saving up for a Passat derv, or some kind of A4/6 Quattro, or even a T4/5. But really, for the money it would cost to change to ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING, you just can't beat a Mk1 vRS.

My winter tyres went on yesterday, she's done 157k and I can't wait to take her, fully loaded, down to Italy this winter!

Thanks

Just gets dirty again billy

New name silly billy ;)

How so?

Mine wont rust as quick as yours and it will weigh less too. Take your liners off n see what in there?

Also means if its clean i can fully inspect it for any damage n faults and its easier to go back on car. She wont be out in the wet ne way. Shewill be clean and under a cover wrapped up lol

Very a**l i know but will be almost like new.

With variouse extras..........
