DAB / AM-FM Aerials

Featured Replies

Well, having installed the RCD310 and then the MDI, my focus has turned to getting the DAB up and cooking.

Out in theBay I got these:

DAB aerial:

£11.99 (inc 2m cable)

DAB extension:

Turns out that the aerial is a Kinetic DEGA-1001:

£15.99 (inc 2m cable)

....not only that, but the invoice is from DABOnWheels too!

Due the the MDI install, I re-routed the quadlock behind the heating controls, to take up the excess and keep the quadlock adaptor out of the way. In doing so the aerial cable ended up being too short to reach back up to the cage. So, a long search later:

......not only does it extend, it splits too!

Well done -it all helps when people share their experiences with what does and doesn't work.

I did know that Dabonwheels trade on eBay as sonosaudio I don't know why their prices are so different -sometimes their eBay is more expensive. However if you buy from Dabonwheels they do offer a free trial service where you can send an item back if you don't get on with it.

I did see that, but the sticky-pads on the aerial (the instructions say about them being unforgiving: no room for adjustment) mean that it cannot go back in the condition it came. Plus, given their reputation (seem to be highly recommended), do kinda hope that nothing needs a trial ;)

Their advice is to temporarily stick stuff in place using masking tape or similar if you want to trial anything that uses adhesive

All installed, no problems. Straight in with the sticky stuff, all works a treat! Highly recommended. The diversity adaptor does the job perfectly too. :) :)

DAB aerial is stuck to the top-right on the rear windscreen, cable routed under the black plastic on the tailgate. Then under the roof-trim all the way to the A-pillar. The original 2m cable runs out just before the roof-trim ends. 2m extenstion finishes the job off nicely. :) (Glad I didn't get the 4m now)

Radio 4Extra now available in-car.................yippeeeeeeee!

^ I'm taking the slightly alternative approach of plugging my little pocket sized DAB into the headunit AUX. Does the same thing just not quite as neat, oh & R4 Extra

Ah, I had a pocket DAB unit (£30 from Asda) but kept forgetting to switch it off. so the batteries kept going flat, plus the SGS2 is plugged in to the AUX port. ;) As I was unimpressed with the Bolero (stupid menu navigation system, no good for using whilst driving) the 310 with DAB wasn't that much more than without. Coupled with the MDI, everything is done now. Also the aerial has cleaned up the reception too. :) (In fact, the reception was good with just installing the aerial base, was very tempted to leave it at that)

............until I think of something else to do ;) ;)

^ All sounds good mate. Battery life is the downfall with my little pocket DAB & came close to buying a DAB headunit. However I think my aerial is the weak point as it's one of those little 'bee sting' type. Certainly looks ok on the van but performance wise I'm not so sure? Have just ordered an in line booster off ebay & will see if that does the trick ;)

Ah, my pocket DAB used the headphone cable as the aerial, so it had to sit on the passenger seat. Have to admit the RCD310 with DAB and MDI(USB), with the SGS2 on AUX (for those rare times of sat nav) does the job perfectly for me and keeps everything neat, tidy and as close to OEM as I can get. (The giveaway is the 310's buttons are red not green, but oddly way less distracting.)

Agreed that's the way to do it Rainbow. My pocket DAB uses the connecting cable but I'm losing out when it comes to FM/MW
