Bag of Spanners

Featured Replies

Basically when i start my car first thing it sounds like a bag of spanners.

Sounds horrific! but when its warm it doesnt sound too bad.

Therre is a point to this, when im accerelating and i change gear, on the down revs, i get like a tapping noise mind gear change from the engine!

Car had a full service 7.5k ago, and an oil change 1.5k ago.

Belt got replaced a good while back but i dont no if the water pump was done at the same time.

IS this a problem or am i just looking for trouble?

p.s i no diesels are loud engines but this is scary!

Can you get a video?

i will take one this weekend, sounds loud when at idle but when i rev it sounds horrific

Erm I'd get it looked at sooner. If the patient is ill, treat sooner and don't make it fatal. :-)

Could be anything from alternator pulley flapping about to dual mass flywheel problems to more general engine/clutch/gearbox issues.

Best get it seen to ASAP unless it croaks expensively. Also, are you sure there's oil in it?

Yeh i check the oil regularly, and theres no leaks

How long have you had the car, and when did the sound start, or you started to notice it.

Had the car since may, its on 62k, belts were changed a while ago on 35k i think! need to check! full service history. had a decat but ive taken that off, ive changed the oil twice. it smokes a bit on full acceleration but not that bad! was going to strip down the egr valve this weekend!

It sounds fine when its warm!

Are there valve clearances or such on this engine?
