Front seat wiring loom help

Featured Replies

I need a wiring loom for a pair of s3 front seats.

I checked kufatc for one: http://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/product?info=90

But it's 99 euro!!

Can anyone advise where I could get one cheaper?

Just make one. All you need is the two power lines, unless you want to connect the heated seats. If you do need to connect the heated seats, you'll need the switchgear too.

All I keep reading is, for the adjustments I just need two power lines.

Live and earth, is that right??

But, I still don't have a clue. I can barely wire a plug!! lol

Yep. That's correct. You might want to put some fuseholders inline though for safety. At least 10A fuses. These motors pull some current. ;)

If you get them the wrong way round it'll still work, but you'll notice the controls are reversed. Hahaha.

So where would I get the wires and the plugs for fitting?

I think I've seen 20A fuses used in some of the guides.

15A fuses will be sufficient. You should be able to source everything at the likes of Maplin, RS components etc.

Just lookup inline blade fuseholders, and cable that is rated to 15A.

Actually, now that I recall what I did, there are two seperate positive lines feeding the main seat loom, one for each seat. Earth is shared. I have a 15A fuse in each positive rail.

Two.

As for connecting to the seats, unless you're going to splash out for the looms, you might as well just cut the connectors off for now. Leave a little bit of cable so they can be spliced back together if need be.

The earths, can be mounted to a good solid UNPAINTED chassis ground point, and each seat will need it's own positive feed. I got a second hand loom with mine, but still needed to do a bit of alterations here and there.

If I was going to splash out for the loom from kufatec (which is about £60), I don't think I'd need any of this.

Earths: What part of the chassis did you use? Bonnet release? Where do they go from there? Is there a specific place they connect to on the seat?

Positive feed: What is that??? lol

Appreciate the electrical education!!

Somewhere under the drivers side carpet there is a convenient mounting point for the earth. Can't recall where.

Positive feed is one of the permanent live 12V supplies just underneath the steering column. There was a thread somewhere (where I bought OET's seats) that showed a picture of where to tap the 12V supply to. All you need is a couple of ring terminals (one to connect the earth, and one to connect the two positives up) some cable, a couple of fuseholders, and some crimp connectors and you're all set.

Or failing crimp connectors, use a soldering iron, westinghouse joints (you'll have to google that) and some heat shrink tape.

I'll see if I can find the thread later. Gotta nip out...

I didn't use the switched terminal though. I used an unswitched one. I wanted to be able to use my seat switches without having a key in the ignition. Probably best to try and avoid adjusting both seats at the same time when tapped from one of the 30A outlets though. ;)
