High Mileage MK2's ?

Featured Replies

I'm toying with the idea of changing my Octavia PD140 for a Superb.

It'll be another diesel, preferably the CR170 in Elegance Spec (My Octavia has Xenons, so they are top of the list).

I'd be looking at a fairly early example on a 58/09 plate.

So, my question. How well are the MK2 superbs standing up to high miles ?

I appreciate things wear out, but my Octavia has almost 160k on the clock, with not too many visits to the garge and I'd likely be looking for the same service from a Superb, however I've read stories about issues with drivers seats bases, something I can;t complain about in the Octavia.

the PD140 Octavia had a reputation for DMF and turbo failures, among others things, something I've been lucky with so far, but at 160k, I can only expect a few big bills.

Considering DSG and manual options, but will need to test drive the DSG first. Made an expensive mistake with an R32 with DSG.....

I should have said considering changing to a Superb, it'll be doing 30k per year.... :-)

The other options are not that great.

Passat - Not keen on the interior - mate has one.

Mondeo - Like the current facelift, but 18K for a mondeo :-(

Insignia - Nice, but its a vauxhall....

Budget won't stretch to any prestige badges, but don't see the need....

I Have a 170 DSG on a 60 plate which is 2 years old at end of Novenber with just under 80K on the clock. Had no trouble at all with it. Only visist to the dealer apart from servicing was due to some toe rag who clipped and broke the drivers door mirror.

As for comfort drove back home from just north of Aberdeen on Wednesday (524 miles) in just under 8 hours with no problem

65.5mph for 8 hours...thats some goin` mate. Well done.

09 superb elegance 170 manual. It has just turned 188k,and is still running like a clock

65.5mph for 8 hours...thats some goin` mate. Well done.

Had a real good run for a change no hold ups at all and cruise control all the way from Glasgow to Preston ( and no police!!)

Mine's currently sitting with 82k on the clock. It's been such a great car, even thinking about buying off the lease firm cos company have changed policy and only ford or vauxhall to choose from now! If I opt out and buy, only worry is potential major breakdown. Last car was a passat 2.0 PD TDi and it was a dog, new turbo, clutch, fuel pump were the major faults with only 60 k done in 3 yrs! I guess for peace of mind, warranty direct may come in useful, need to check if they have limits on mileage though.

I've just chopped a 58 plate CR 170 Manual Elegance in at 93k miles, only issue was the week before it went back with the turbo waste gate. The car still looks new, inside and out except for a hole worn in the driver's side carpet mat. It is up for £9,950 at Progress Northampton if you are local and fancy seeing how well a high mileage one holds up.

Interesting, i've got a hole in my mat too!
