Vag com brings up no faults, but ive read that it could be the heater resistor pack??

Someone help lol!

My 1st port of call would be your fuses.

The ones in the cabin yh?

Was it not freezing last night? - wipers might have stuck and blown a fuses as suggested already.

Sorry, the above comments don't work if it "all came back" - I forgot that bit!!

But my windows were intermittently working because of a loose/dirty fuse - so that might be worth checking. Sounds a lot to be not working all at once though for that to be the cause.

Exactly my thoughts, resistor pack seems ok, all the fuses in the cabin are fine!

Wheres all the tech's today!

resistor pack only really affect speeds 1-3 of the fan, nothing to do with anything else that failed

no real common points relating them components, no shared fuses etc

just go round the engine bay, check all leads on battery are clean and tight (unlikely to be problem as you do not mention issues starting the car)

earth point behind battery may need cleaning

have a look around the engine bay and check all connectors on wiring looms are tight, check for any issues of wires being chaffed

only other thought is a relay playing up, no clue which one as don't have haynes manual in front of me

Thank for your help! Just wish it fixed itself!

intermittent faults are a pain to find,

not sure where the relays are on the mk1, never had to look for them on swmbo's yet, will have a look in the haynes manuals later

Thanks buddy!

Im all new to this! Im an electrician to trade but car electrics are a hell of alot more difficult!

Forgot to say, a/c button light does not come on, but the re circ light does!

Update,

Came out this morning, none of te above worked, drove for 5 mins later my front windows worked but the blower didnt and then ten mins later windows wouldnt work again!

Certainly sounds like an earthing issue or some other break somewhere in the wiring.

Where are the relays for the mk1? Bad connection to them maybe?

More updates!

Just drove home from my mates and everythig started working,

Heaters, elec windows, fog lights and rear window wiper and all linked, guessing on the same relay or circuit?

I think its a bad connection some where,

Where are the relays lol?

First cold morning today. My cruise didn't work for a bit today then started working after 40 miles and a bit of warmth. I got home and cleaned the cruise contacts with alcohol and I hope it will be sorted on the next cold day. Maybe a contact/fuse terminal needs a wipe. I realise that if the heater won't work it can't dry

the cabin/switches out that it will be harder for you to find the fault if it's inside the car and caused by condensation.

I've never checked in this car but noone els has answerd... normaly an earth going to the body and one going to the gearbox. Both should be easy to find and trace.

Good luck.

i know it sounds obvious but have you had any work done on it recently?

the earth to body is behind the airfilter/ battery

just looking in the haynes book

there is a thing called "terminal 30 junction box"

teminal 4, has cig lighter , windows, instrument cluster constant live (there is also a switched lived via ign sw which might mask this) central locking, elect mirrors, rear window heater, radio

looks like your list

follow the black wire from F2 (110 amp) on top of battery to a juction box / bus bar, black wire goes to terminal 1, so count across to 4

dont suspect the 110A fuse as that will take out more systems

Will try that later!

My mate whos a mechanic says it it could be the Central Convenience Module!

did not think the convienience module did the rear wiper and AC

My mate whos a mechanic says it it could be the Central Convenience Module!

I'm not a mechanic, but I thought the same thing. I know the module is in control of the electric windows at least.

Semingly it controls all the electrics!

I just have no idea how to check!
