Skoda Fabia TSI 86 remapp, what to expect?

Featured Replies

Ive been thinking of remapping my 1.2 TSI 86hp in the near future. But what kind of performance increase should i be able to get?

Is there someone else in here that have done a real remapping and not just installed a performance chipp?

Is there any mechanical changes between the 86HP 1.2 TSI engine and the 105hp one?

Ive read something about that the 105hp has larger oil volume inside the engine but nothing else..

..i have the same specs as you and also considering and would also like to know.

..others are recomending a tunning box from tmc sports that does a somewhat similiar thing http://www.tmcmotorsport.com/CarProducts.aspx and that way you can always go back to your original setting if needed

Yeah but im thinking if i should get a real remapp after my own car instead of getting a performance chipp..

What would happend to the warranty if you installed one of theese chip tuning with 100-120hp in the car? Would the warranty still be valid?

If you wanted a job done under warranty, I'd take off the tmc tuning box! Can always put it back on after. And the tmc was used by a few people with the vrs' and rated quite highly, but although I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable as others on this forum, I'd personally go for a proper remap over the tuning box, just for peace of mind.

Yes but the question would be if a Skoda tech would be able to see that a tuning box have been installed? If a tech would be able to do that it doesnt matter if you remove the box..

Does anyone know if you are allowed within the warranty to install a tuning box? Or is it a big NO-NO?

I think its unlikely the tech would realise the tuning box had been there but It's a small risk you'd have to be prepared to take. Obviously "tuning" the engine with a box or remap is not going to be conducive to keeping the warranty intact for the engine. Doesn't necessarily mean the garage will turn down any warranty work out of hand tho (they make a lot if money from doing warranty repairs). I'd say if you are very concerned about the warranty then don't do it

Thanks for your reply.

Yeah i guess it also depends on what would happend to the engine. If i get problems with cam chain rattle i guess it still could be within warranty, but turbo-related problems could be hard to get through warranty.

Is there any physical changes from the 1.2 TSI 86hp engine to the 105hp or is it just the software in the ECU?

................just the software.....and from threads that i have read the say that with the tuning box no tracing ounce removed in order to have it serviced and no complications with warranty, remapping on the other hand will void your warranty if of course picked up

Maybe I'm missing the point, but why not just buy the 105 in the first place?

Maybe I'm missing the point, but why not just buy the 105 in the first place?

Mainly because its 2000euro more expensive than the 86hp.

Also as you might have realised im not buying the 1.2 TSI for its horsepower. Im just looking into the options IF i would like some more in the future :)

I used tuning box on vrs and rated it highly had to get rid becuase of other comitments. It worked and if i had the chance would get it again.

Look at posts regarding tmc box on the vrs

A remap would be picked up right away and when new software flashed by dealers you would have to get it remapped.

A tuning box by tmc is good because it doesnt just increase fuel pressure like other boxes, it acts a bit like a piggy back ecu.

If a dealer really did some searching and the techie knew what he was doing then yes he would find out but i would put money on it not being found if removed before a service.

So if your thinking about a box only advice i can give to you is get it!! :p

I dont know for sure but if you were to get a remap it is possible they would have to remove the ecu like on the vrs, but you would need to find someone with some knowledge on 1.2tsi tuning to confirm or deny

Im sure this come up a few times. But it you lookin to it a bit more thereno real word. Difference between 86 or the 105 if you drive to side by side i doubt its noticable

After some e-mailing with TMC im fairly sure i will buy it from them :) They seem really nice with quick e-mail support.

One interesting thing i noticed is that if i would buy a BSR stage 1 for my car it would cost me about 800quid in sweden, but if i buy it through .co.uk it only costs 499.. Both with the PPC..

Ive looked at 2 options now. One is remapping and the other one is TMC's solution which fools the stock ECU.

Attached is the dyno runs for the 2 options. Which you would you choose? Which one do you think would be best?

Had my 1.2 tsi (86hp) remapped 2 weeks ago by Northwestmapping in Warrington. On their recommendation the hp was increased to 116hp & torque to 223 nm to give the best combination for performance & economy.I'am really pleased with the results. The car was already nippy & economical but now it is even better & is great fun to drive.

Still have the same problem though that nobody likes being overtaken by a Skoda Fabia !

Mind you their are many drivers out there who just don't like being overtaken by anything even if they were driving a Reliant Robin. You just have to let them go or risk being killed or killing other people.

There seems to be quite a few firms that now offer remaps on the 1.2 tsi engine(86hp & 105hp), whereas a few months ago, no one seemed to be able to be able to do it.Some of these offer to increase the hp to 130hp or more which seems a bit scary to me.I am no expert but I think torque is more important. All I can say is that I would highly recommend Northwestmapping. They seem really decent people to deal with & seem to really know what they are doing & I was very happy to trust their advice. They offer a mobile service throughout the North West & North Wales if anyone is interested.

How much did you pay? I've considered it depending on cost.
