New member - and a bit of a rant

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Sorry - long first post content.

I've been lurking on here a little while, having first heard about the forum a few years ago from some fellow members. Earlier in the year we decided it was time to update SWMBOs car and ended up with a '59 plate Octy VRS LE (petrol). The first 6 months or so were great other than putting quite a few miles on it while my Lotus was under the weather. However the last couple of months haven't gone so well. Problems started after its first service/MoT in August. 2 days after the service, the car wouldn't start. Skoda assist came out, and were rather surprised to discover no compression on any of the cylinders  We had it towed to the local dealer, and they diagnosed the timing had slipped (thought these were chain driven?), there were a number of bent valves and that the solution was a new engine - all under warranty. 2 weeks later we got the car back, only to leave SWMBO stranded 24 hours later with a flat battery. Again, another trip to the dealer, new battery (under warranty), and we thought that was the end of it. Well, 3 weeks on, it's done it again. This time engine management light came on. Fortunately only 1/2 a mile from home, so it got limped home with a mis-fire, and then wouldn't idle on restarting. Skoda assist won't come out until tomorrow as there's nowhere open to tow it to if it can't be sorted roadside. Supposed to be off touring France in a couple of weeks and now seriously wondering whether the 21 year old Lotus would be more reliable to take.

Have we just been unlucky? Anyone got any sensible ideas what to do next? Obviously can't draw any firm conclusions until we've seen what the latest fault it, but it's really not encouraging our faith in the car/marque.

Anyway, :hi: hopefully wil have more positive things to post in the future.

Jon

Hi and welcome aboard.

If it isn't sorted this time around I would be looking to reject the vehicle TBH.

The 2.0 TFSI engine is a belt driven engine, I believe the 2.0TSI is a chain driven one. Being 2009 the car has the TFSI flavour.

It's a late 2009 and a limited edition - I thought these had the TSI engine? It's got lower CO2 than the early 2009 non-LE cars.

Hoping we don't have to reject it 'cos the LE has a lovely interior and I'm not a fan of the standard VRS one, but there aren't many LEs around. :wonder:
