can a competent DIY'er put a rear bumper on an octavia?

Featured Replies

Genuine question. I am competent (building bathrooms plumbing, electrics etc) but have never contemplated doing a car myself.

Having knacked my rear bumper and seeing that they're only about £220 online (which I was plesantly surprised at) I'd be willing to give it a go if folk think that the process is relatively straight forward. If, however, it's actually far more complex than it looks then I'd bow to experience and let a garage to it.

Anyone given it a go? Anyone have sage advice either way?

thanks

Chris.

It's not too bad actually. Take your time and get a second pair of hands to help you.

I'm no mechanic and, apart from the quantity of trim to remove, it is actually fairly straight forward.

Put some carpet or blankets on the floor under the bumper before fitting / removing to help protect the new one.

I recall doing it on a Golf couple of years back to fit (and then later remove) a towbar.

As above, if you plan the work, take your time and get someone to help then it will be fine.

You could save yourself some time and effort and around £150 by getting a bumper in the same colour from a scrappy,
