The importance of keeping you Black magic Furby clean

Featured Replies

I am so annoyed with myself today.

Some stupid woman in sainsbury's carpark opened her door and hit my wing mirror on tuesday. She was obviously oblivous to what she had done as most women are (wonder why their insurance is cheaper) and I checked and couldnt see a mark.

I had the car valeted yesterday and now you can see in all it's glory, the horrible scuff mark where she has taken off the top layer of paint. There's nothing I can do about it now, but If my car had been clean at the time I would have made sure she paid for the damage. People are really starting to **** me off with their inconsiderate attitute to other peoples property that they spent their hard earned money on.

The first time I had it cleaned properly ( a week after picking it up brand new) I found three white marks on my back bumper that could only have happened when some other car rubbbed along mine. Stone chips I can handle, but damage caused by other people's inability to drive get my goat.

I feel sorry for the next person who hits my car in eyeshot.

Rant over

Feel exactly the same.... I picked up my car last Saturday, left it in Tescos car park in the afternoon.... when I came back some #### had squeezed between my car and another and scraped all above the real wheel arch looks terrible and I had only got the car 4 hours before.

Its scrapped down to white.... cant afford to go to bodyshop so going to have to do patch up... anyone used or know of Halfords spray paint and spray laquere... its in their "How To" section on their site... any good?

Halfords do the touch up pens too. I was thinking of getting one to do the bits on my bumper. Has anyone used one and if so are they any good?

Try a good polish and plenty of elbow grease, what you are looking at might just be surface damage and the white could be paint from the other car.

Same for the mirror, give it a good piece of elbow grease and the mark although it wont disappear could be less noticable.

thanks for the advice. I shall give it a go when I get home tonight and give it a try.

I always park between two spaces as far from the door as I can; this seems to work

(touch wood!!!) in keeping her mark free.

I either park between 2 spaces or if it is busy drive to the other end of the car park. I have never had a problem in car parks !!

Thing she had plenty of room to open her door and get in. I am quite a large individual and I would have been able to get in the car with about a foot to spare, but for some reason she swung her door open.

TBH I dont think I could park across two spaces, and if people park properly and take care there should be no need to damage other peoples cars. I have never bashed someone else's car in ten years of having a license so why do other people have to.

My stance on this is when other people learn to respect my car, I'll respect their need for spaces and I'll stop taking up two.

You make a good point. I might start doing it in future. Probably the best way.

Good news though. Just been out for a ciggie and took a baby wipe to the mark on my wing mirror and it's all but disapeared. Take it my paint works better then hers. I shall get the little bits off later.

As for the back I dont think they will be soe easy and I think I might have to go for a touch up pen or something unless someone has a story to put me off using one.

Personally i think its about bloody time that supermarkets, DIy stores etc, make there parking bays that little bit wider, even when i park the octy bang centre in the middle of a bay, there aint much room on either side, and especially if either another big car or worse a people/4x4 comes n parks at the side....i like the rest have mentioned park as far away as poss. I've also put proximty alarm on too, but i have another story about that.........(I feel like a rant too no) lol

Car Park Dings are my pet hate too . . I'm quite anal about where I park. Given a choice I would prefer to have a ding on something plastic rather than metal.

I do have a confession to make: when I had my first car (a white clio) I parked up in B&Q and when I opened my door the wind took it and it slammed into the dark blue bmw I had parked next too . . . . it left a massive scuff on the door - really nasty! After 20 seconds or so (to make sure the owner wasn't about) I drove off . . . I felt really guilty but I couldn't afford to loose my no claims . . .

It was you!!! You b@stard!!!

Just Kidding ;)

i have never had a problem thank god i just stick it in a bay and wander off

The local costco has it spot on . Every bay is a decent size PLUS they have additional space on each side of every bay a bit like the parent with child spaces you see at the local supermarket.

I still park well away from any other car though and also not in the line of fire for shopping trolley bays.

In other car parks I do follow the park far away and use 2 spaces approach as well

When I picked my Fabia up, I went to pick my wife up at Stainsbury's and I had cars at either side open their doors onto it, I was sitting in it at the time, got out and checked for any marks, neither person apologised.

All they're thinking about is shopping. Supermarket car-parks are well known for door banging.

If someone did that to my car whilst I was in it a message would be expressed towards their incompetence and I would get the security involved...

Fortunately it has not happened to the Furby (yet). Someone once did it to the Metro though. They regretted that though as they ended up paying for a respray. Police was involved.

Basic conversation went a bit like:

* Me: Excuse me, you just bashed your door into the side of my car. Look there is the dent, scraped and paint missing. Can I have your insurance details please?

* TheOtherParty: what you complaining about it's a rubbish car anyway.

* Me: (grabs mobile and hits the police speed dial for Abingdon) - that's quite ok, I've just contacted the police who will attend here shortly.

* TOP - urm. Mumbles something like Oh f*ck.

* Waiting for 10 mins, explained situation to officer(s) and basically the guy ended up paying. Nice amount of cost too, around 500 quid hehehe.

It would have been fine had this person apologised rather than having a go at the car - yes it's rubbish but that's not the point ;) and also a little bump would have been ok-ish, not a slam hard open into my car..

What can I say ;)

I'm also quite anal about where I park, guess for the same reasons! What I really hate is car parks that they make so narrow, you can't turn the corner without going on the other side of the road!

I also hate those motorists that go the wrong way down roads in car parks! We have a bit in the local Sainsburys where people coming from one row in the car park have to so back up another row and down before exiting, although people like to straight line it straight down the one way section, which is dangerous, as people who have done the right thing have the problem of this idiot coming out the wrong way, and there is no give way signs at that point as there isn't supposed to be an idiot on your right! I nearly got slammed by a car as that point who looked at me as if I was a tool for not giving way! I now like to drive straight up to the bonnets of cars skipping down the one way sections just for a laugh and holding up all the traffic behind. They soon reverse and go the right way, they all know exactly what they are doing they are just lasy to actually turn the wheel 3 times and waste 10 seconds of their precious time!

In my work we have similar problems. Our enterance to the customer car park is off a roundabout and is 2 lanes, each one way. I have only ever seen one moron go out this way, and how she avoided getting hit by the cars (it bends sharply off the roundabout) I have no idea. However on the proper exit it is also two lanes, each with big arrows and painted on the road is ONE WAY. Dispite this the number of people that seem surprised as I pass them on the outside lane is shocking, and the amount of time I ahve had to clamp on the anchors as turns right from the inside lane on the roundabout is astonishing! People really aren't paying attention when they drive!

If you are going to build a carpark, either make it wide 2 way on all roads or one-way but angle the spaces at 45 degrees!

I always park between two spaces as far from the door as I can; this seems to work

Until some t055er decides that your are being inconsiderate and keys your car up

Or the car park fills up and they decide they CAN park in the 1/2 space gap! Only real solution if you don't want any car park dings is to not park your pride and joy in a car park!!!
