Steel wheels centre caps size?

Featured Replies

Ok now i have bought some steel wheels fitted with winter tyres and realised i will need some centre caps (probably)

The centre bore seems to be 57.1 so i'm just wondering what caps will suffice? Seen on ebay etc they come in 58 mm sizes so i'm guessing thats the one? Just thinking this will keep the salt/snow etc out the hole in the middle..

Dont want to use the ones off my new blackline wheels..

Something like these?

Don't think they would stay in place 58mm cap dia. - but only 55mm on clip.

Surprising no one seems to be selling centre caps for steel wheels.

Particularly as proper Skoda wheel trims are so expensive and accessory shop ones are so nasty looking and prone to falling off.

Vw have ones that clip over the bolts, black plastic and cover the hole, cant remember where i saw them

There's a thread about the VW centre caps in the Yeti forum.

I got a set of black plastic ones meant for a VW Caddy van like these :)

Also the ones in the ebay link wont work with steels on the rear wheels as the hub protrudes through the centre bore so there is nowhere to attach them, actually dont think they will work on the front either, they are for alloys which have a thicker material around the bolts

Thanks for the replies..

Seems i'll wait and see what the hubs are like with the alloys off. Looking at what Dallan says i may need to opt for wheel trims :bandit:

I went for slightly different approach for centre caps, but still from VW and think they were also from a Caddy. Don't get confused with the ones with a big 'VW' embossed as they are from a T5 and they don't fit (wrong PCD of 120mm) but go for the ones with 'VOLKSWAGEN' written in smaller letters as they are the correct 112mm PCD.

You can see they cover the wheel bolts and make naff looking winter wheels look less .... naff!

Think they were about a tenner each which is a lot for a bit of dark grey plastic but they do work and keep the muck off.</p>

I had looked for a set as described by toonfan66 but found them harder to find as i couldnt find those ones to fit the 16" wheels, seemed to be only for 15" wheels,

You've got me worried!

I have a Superb and got these (part number 2K06011699B9) from Skodaparts as they're listed as winter wheel covers for Superbs - and Octys and Yetis:

http://www.skodapart...2008-2013-50164 and they have the big VW in the middle.

Haven't put my winter wheels on yet but I'm assuming they'll fit properly - the guy I spoke to at Skodaparts told me these will fit the 7Jx16 ET45 5x112 OE steelies (part 3C0601027M03C) that were ordered at the same time.

I'll find out soon enough when I go to fit the wheels I guess. :S

Hi - I'm hoping to find these black centre caps (like on the T5 steels) for my J6 x 15 ET43  (57.1 mm centre bore) Fabia 2011 Hatchback.

Any tips for 'universal' fit with standard issue Fabia 15" steel rims?

I'd like to achieve this look with 195/55 R15 tyres (of course). I just saw the black caps were once standard issue on the old Felicia!

Any pointers gratefully received.

Fabia has 5/100 rims.

Caddy covers are either 4/100 or 5/112, so you can't get any Caddy black plastic centre caps to fit.

Thank you Carlston - do you know of anyone keen to do the same thing? I can imagine it on my fabia and having owned a T5 shuttle with steels and black center caps, I would love to find the same aesthetic.

The Golf MK2 GTI sometimes used stylised steel rims with centre caps, as shown in the first photo below. The lack of aesthetic steel rims with centre caps may be because alloy rims are such a money maker for the motor companies. Most alloy rims are made of cheap, heavy sand cast aluminium. The motor manufacturers have sometimes made high quality, lightweight forged alloy rims but usually it's cheap and heavy sand cast alloy rims. All that glitters is not gold, etc.

The ones shown in the second photo are made in Germany and were originally fitted to the Audi A3 MK1, which like the Octavia MK1 used 5/100 instead of the later 5/112 for the bolt holes. The full specification of these rims is 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 so would be ideal for the Fabia MK3 which also uses this specification of rim fitted with standard 185/60R15 tyres. The weight of these forged alloy German made rims is amazingly light at about 5.5kg each. This compares to at least 7.5kg but usually a lot more, for steel and sand cast alloy rims of the same specification. Multiple that by 5 (including the spare) and the difference in weight is considerable.

The stylised 6Jx15 ET35 5/100 57.1 steel rims are still available, sold as Alcar 8945. These were from the Golf MK3 VR6 and Passat B4. Most Golf MK3s used 4/100 rims, but the VR6 model used 5/100. The problem is, VW no longer sell new centre caps from the Golf MK3 VR6 steel rims, although they do sometimes come up on ebay secondhand.
