Toyota MR2 with roof mounted airscoop - Pile of Poo.

Featured Replies

Encountered said vehicle this morning at some lights.

Naughty boy slipped into the most inner lane and tried to pull away at the change.

He toasted the lass next to him, but not me on the far outside. Got the drop once we hit the 40mph limit as I backed of, but he didn't. What a Spanner.

Bit further on, we ended up alongside each other. Must have caught him off-boost or asleep as the shift from idle 20mph to 40mph left him standing.

He was obviously unimpressed. He caught up with me while waiting at a T-junction, where he took the inside lane, still for turning right, but pulled up ahead of me, blocking a pedestrian crossing just to get 1 car length advantage. What a Tool.

Course, we all know the shortest way round a corner is the apex on the short edge, so his advantage evaporated when i stepped on the loud pedal.

And i kept up with him when he got infront of me with a sneaky shortcut later as well.

SO.

After that rambling account, is the MR2 with roof airscoop/bean can exhaust sinmply a case of all mouth and no trousers, or is the PD130 lump far stronger than I realise?

I would say thats a good effort, they are pretty quick cars and accelerate well being mid engined...not much wheelspin.

Think it attracts bad drivers, there is one driving round my local town which is white with full Castrol livery, racing spoiler and airscoop. The guy is mental, i wouldnt even want to pull alongside him for fear of being punted off the road or something, plus my car might get scorched by the flames always coming out of his exhaust!

He must love chattin to the police, subtle it aint.

It wasn't an orange one was it with 'torude2cruize' stickers?

I've seen a yellow MR2 with the compulsary tin can zorst driving like **** - are they the BMW drivers somthing? :)

nope.

Red, "J" plate.

I've seen those stickers in chav-mobiles all over rochdale. And i've seen a white MR2 with a black carbon fibre effect roof scoop parked in the Royal Mail depot in rochdale too. That looked like garbage as well.

are these the small wedge-like 1st models, or the mk2 jobs with the longer body? See lots of both types round my way, full jap-style mods (slash cut massive exhausts, TRD stickers everywhere etc.), totally unimpressed with them, although the thought of owning a mid-engined sporty car thats relatively cheap is quite tempting now I think about it. Sound nice as well in standard form, bit ott with 5" slash cut job on back tho...

The driver of the orange one should still have a very bruised face with any luck.

Bit of a difference of opinions was there?

To cut a long story short, he was driving like a tool in a field with kids around and I had a word with him - nothing nasty I was really pleasant and polite.

He then floored it and sprayed me with mud, I snapped, he was stuck in mud so got an unpolite talking too.

There is a red MR2 with twin airscoops near me. Its a standard 2.0 non-turbo car, but the guy that owns it has gone and put the two scoops on just for effect. If anything it reduces his terminal velocity, and dramatically increases his wind noise - not to mention attracting attention from the boys in blue.

I almost bought a GT Turbo MR2 some years back, but took it for a drive and was disappointed. Went and bought myself an MX-5 instead - great fun, but just too girly.

I drove a trubo'd MR2 last year on the taxiway up here - great for donuts!

That's cheating - it was raining ;)

Chris

the S2000 was easier to get sideways mid corner than the MR2 was in the wet. MR2 just understeered then went all of a sudden.... S2000 was very easy and controlable.

I should also say that I was behind the camera - it was a girl driving........ need I say more ??? ;)
