Smartnav

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of having Trafficmaster's Smartnav installed in my 3 month old Octy II and would be interested to know what other users think of the system. Particularly, how neat is the installation and where's the best place to site the speaker?

Hi,

I have Smartnav fitted in my Fabia VRs and it is the best system I have experienced and is very accurate.

I have the speaker placed behind the passenger air vent and while you can't see it you can hear it perfectly. I had it fitted in my last car too and then I had it in the passenger footwell. You could only see it if you moved your head down.

The installation is nice and clean. The button is installed on a blank switch in the dashboard which looks cool when lit at night. The aerial is fitted behind the passenger pillar so you can't see it. The only other things visible is the GPS aerial on the front of the dash and the microphone for speaking to the operator by the interior lights.

All in all I am very pleased and the installation is excellent.

Fitted quite a few SmartNav systems myself (std fit on the Mazda6) and it does seem to be quite a good system. Very easy to install and set up and simple to use. Includes mute wire for the stereo which quite often people dont bother with but its quite easy to connect into pin2 (iirc) of the black ISO connector.

Had my Smartnav installed a couple of weeks ago and am very pleased with it. Installation very neat - speaker and computer/mobile phone behind dash and therefore completely hidden, as is all wiring. Only visible bits are the microphone by the interior light switches, the combined gps/gsm aerial on the windscreen behind the rearview mirror and the Smartnav button to the left of and below the steering wheel.

The navigation system to get you from A to B works very well but cannot yet vouch for the traffic congestion avoidance feature simply because, on the few runs I have used Smartnav so far, I have not encountered any traffic jams.

Hi Lummox,

Was reading a thread that you posted re: smartnav. You said you've fitted a few of the smartnavs and wondered if you had a wiring diagram or could tell me which wire is which, i've just bought a used unit but don't want to spend the
