Instrument Panel Corrupt - Car not starting

Featured Replies

Hi

I have tried searching for this but I can't find what it.

The LCD part of the instrument panel is showing all the various permutations at once and none of the lights come on the dash. The engine turns over once but then stops.

Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks

Ian

try disconnecting batter for a few minutes.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it tonight. I tried again this morning and the LCD display now no longer shows up either. So no LCD and no Instrument panel lights. Eeek

Also be aware that when you do disconnect and then reconnect the battery you'll get 3 warning lights that will remain on (ABS, steering wheel and 1 other). You just need to go for a quick drive to reset those.

Thanks chaps. Will give it a go tonight.

Does sound like a battery issue. Do you get anything from the headlights?

Quick update, battery is fine. Had the AA out tonight and they reckon that it is the Dashboard pod that needs replacing.

Does anyone know if swapping a dashpod is a straight forward job or not? My mechanic hasn't been back in touch with me and I'm wondering if it is something that I could have a go at myself?

Thanks

If the mkII is the same as the mkI then no it isn't straight forward as the immobiliser is built into the instrument cluster, if you swap it you have to get the reaplacement cluster recoded to work with the ECU, otherwise the car won't run.

Oh great!!

It sounds like I'll have to wait for the mechanic.

Where are you based? Shark Performance in Mansfield have a lot of experience with this.

Update: I got towed to a garage in Bootle as I was coming of the tow vehicle I turn the ignition on and low and behold the lights all came on. The mechanic in the garage had a look over the car and has disable the immobiliser temporaily so if it goes off again it will start no problem. Now I can order a replacement at lesiure.

Thanks for all your help

If you car gets nicked in the mean time you could have a bit of fun with the insurance.

I have a maxidot cluster, two keys, and TFSi ECU for sale - seem my Mk2 VRS breaking in classifieds?
