Anti Dazzle Mirrors to fit fabia?

Featured Replies

Hello,

As per title really,

I nearly scrapped off the side of a hyundai today; partly the fact that she was muscling her way through traffic at stupid speeds in london and partly I check the blind spot last while beginning my maneuver. But to be fair both sides of her car were both badly scraped, look like and drove like someone who didn't have insurance anyway (I didn't touch her car but she gave me the evils and carried on muscling through traffic :wonder: ). Im normally good if not very good at peripheral vision, people seem to try come into me rather than the other way round.

So I'm deciding to get some newbie asymmetrical blue tinted wing mirrors for the car. Easy enough as its same as octy and golf mk4 style mirrors, but what about the rear view mirror? Has anyone had a go at changing that? I did a quick search but nothing. No idea how to take off original on fabia (haven't looked), auto dimming would be nice touch, easy mod as you just tap power from internal lighting.

I was thinking more of OEM taken off other cars :D but.. the ebay link shown this:

2. For VW/AUDI/SEAT/SKODA cars

Turn the OEM mirror at the end 90 degree (round fitting on the windscreen), and put out the mirror, then you will see a button tag on the windscreen.

we can provide an adapter to let you fit this item on the tag, which is 12 pounds

So I assume all VAG Cars have same adaptor for rear view mirrors?

I did this on my Cordoba (same rear view mirror as yours).

I used a mirror from a Seat Leon and bought the adapter to fit the mirror and just glued this round the existing fitment.

You also need the little plastic wiring conduit covers so that you can't see the wires.

You then, as you say, just need to tap into a neutral and a switched live (the reverse light feed is optional and I haven't done it yet).

Get yourself on a parts catalogue and check all the part numbers out. There are different colours for all of them depending on the trim colour you need/want.

Pretty much any mirror from a Polo, Fabia, Ibiza, Cordoba, Leon, Golf will fit as they are all manufactured by the same company I believe.

P.s. If you like I can get a couple of pictures to show how it looks and how the adapter glues on etc. It looks perfect and like it was factory fit. Only the keen eyed would spot that it's missing the rain sensor that would normally sit inside the mirror bracket.

Not sure what you mean by adaptor? the two metal clips?

I found this:

http://www.ebay.co.u...d=271075498547

Does this mean its not a direct fit..?

If its the case of getting an adaptor perhaps its worth finding a universal one? BMW mirrors seems to be cheaper than other brands.

That looks just like the mirror I have and not it is not a direct swap over and you can't use the rain sensor as this sits inside the metal clip on the windscreen but the clip for the standard mirror doesn't have the gap in the middle for it. The new clip is wider to acomodate the rain sensor in the middle and so the clips on the mirror itself are further apart and can't be modified to fit (I studied long and hard trust me).

The clip cost about £8 from a Seat dealer and I glued it on with some aroldite around the existing clip (you can't see the glue at all from inside/outside as it is covered by the mirror).

Don't let this put you off. It really was a doddle to fit and all that is required is some glue and some extra lengths of wire.

I will get a picture later and you will see clearly what I mean by all this.

I checked on a parts catalogue and nothing is listed for an auto dimming mirror with rain sensor. Here is the Seat part number: 3B0845543A

Like I say I'm almost 100% that retaining clip will work on your car with that mirror as all the auto dimming mirrors are made by the same company across all the platforms. Plus my mirror was from Leon (Golf/Octavia platform) and fit fine on the Ibiza bracket etc.
