Warming up engine on a cold morning

When I start car (2.0tsi) revs are about 1100.....I wait until they drop to 900 which take up to one minute and then drive off.

Why?

Why?

Its my first car, I guess I worked out in my mind that it may be better as oil should get everywhere and warm up just a tiny bit. I don't think I can do much harm to the car by doing it. It does take under minute, just enough time for me to pop out and take leaves from under the windscreen wipers.

And I meant cold start, when it's warm revs go straight to 900.

I believe cars rev slightly higher to get the Cat to a working temp within a given time from starting, some have extra fans to force more air in. It wont make any real difference, poor servicing, cheap oil & general lack of mechanical sympathy when driving do far more damage
