I'm heading to France in a couple of weeks and I was wondering as the Monte has projectors does it still need those little plastic things on the headlight covers to deflect some of the beam?

I wouldn't worry too much, I drove to the Alps and back in March and forgot to buy beam deflectors and didn't get flashed once! I also drove to Berlin and back 2 weeks ago and again didn't get flashed once on a 2k round trip!

'were you driving in the dark or have your lights switched on'?

At least you know for next time then that it's just a matter of flicking the leaver.

Not being flashed btw doesn't mean that you didn't dazzle somebody... just means they didn't think to or didn't have time to flash you for it!

Had my lights on the entire time & yes 80% of the driving was at night without a problem...

No levers on mine, I checked a few times!

Mordern projector lights beams are quite flat so they cause much of a problem as the old healights did.
