Not too much really mate needs some new tyres, then look at suspension, exhaust, map next year, gonna sort some maintanence out first, check the cam follower, strip and clean out the intake valves, sort a catch can,

Driven my dads mk2 facelift a lot, but to be honest it's miles better then the mk1 feels more refined, still far too high for a sporty model though lol, driven a fair few mk5's back in the day too so knew what they were like

Can't you see it looking all sad in front in one pic, nah it's still here mate being stripped over next couple of weeks :(

Sidelights and xenons, the xenons seem bluer then my factory fit Fabia ones though even when I put 5ks in,

Sidelights are 4k osrams

Changed the cam follower today, looks like it was still on its original which was good going, anyway some pics

Seems to be idling better even though it didn't seem to be bad anyway, old one did seem pretty beaten up a few scores on it and quite abit of the top coating worn away, wasn't a bad job, pain in the arse was getting the second line off the bottom of the pump which was a m8 head

57e62287b624e60c65b81df5b57ffe8e.jpg

This bad boy, ended up using that m8 bit and a 10mm spanner round it, don't think it would be possible any other way,

Another job out the way, job for tomorrow is cleaning out the intake valves quite and involved Job, got new gaskets and some injector seals just incase they pop out, if the weather holds out, should be running like new after, even though it's not running bad now lol

Gonna look into hopefully relocating the Evap canistor somewhere and the washer bottle top, tidy up that side of the engine ready for when I get a catch can setup

Looks good! :D

Been busy today cleaning the intake valves, what a pita, still sets my mind at ease now it's done, they were gummed up but I didn't think too bad for 95k

Little update got a stainless exhaust fitted, came off a mk2 but the brackets didn't line up to the back mount, lucky I got it cheap enough so started off like this

ae04a3aa6eee79d9d2fa544308fc9ee5.jpg

And I've had the rear silencer removed an a straight pipe welded in sounds very nice now, and fits the cutout spot on now, so happy overall

4286b2117c217c0a7863b89b11af1441.jpg

Also fitted a new breather pipe as mine had split, and my bsh stage1 Pcv fix would be here by next week and that's the engine bay nearly sorted, not dong much more other then a set of eibachs and some new tyres, and finish installing my stereo, still loving it, and been getting nearly 40mpg on my trip down south so the economy's up quite ait since getting it, just from cleaning the valves and some maintance :)

My bsh stage 1 Pcv fix has arrived, just fitted it today, looks well made can't believe these are 85quid new not much too it, lucky I got this second hand.

Looking good. Not a fan of single DINs in the Mk2, but if you had it spare

Going back a little Trev, out of interest how did you clean the ports ???

Looking good !!

good work Trev, onwards and upwards from the mk1. Was tempted for one of these myself after my mk1

It's the bottom end of the valves, just did one cylinder at a time, got them closed then filled the port up with brake cleaner leaving it for abit, then working with a supposed special tool even the dealers use, cable ties bunched together lol, use a scraping motion and repeat with each other cylinder, very time consuming but I did it in around 6hours, could have taken longer depends how thorough you want to be, there's a good guide on Mk5golf http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103885&page=6

There so cheap now too, it's a leap forward in every respect to the mk1 but it's the same needs bits doing to make it as good as it should have been lol
